Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Sitting in my room here watching some nice, if increasingly infrequent crawlers to my north. Resulting thunder getting more distant sounding.

I think it was on this day 2 or 3 years ago we had a similar storm on this very day (July 19th) but it occurred during the nightime hours instead.

Bucketing down again here in meath, unreal rain

Yep round 2 here near Trim! It’s mad, I’m standing outside (in shelter!) and although the whole sky looks exactly the same, dark clouds all around, the rain just goes into mad crazy bursts of lashing, then easing, then absolutely lashing again, but I can’t see how as cloud doesn’t look different! If that makes sense! :P

Thunder and lightning seem to be getting closer again. Lightning has an orange tinge about it.

Could really do with the rain stopping now

Interesting 'pulsing' returns on the radar, really shows how unstable the atmosphere is in the Midlands with huge changes frame to frame.

Plenty rain here all evening but nothing interesting, just plain old light/moderate stuff

Will we see anything in the south east? Specifically Laois Kilkenny Carlow triangle?

Rain eased considerably here in meath, but still thunder and lightening

Got a little windier here in Dublin (which is welcome) but no sign of any rain or thunder...

...and to think I cancelled a bbq at my place this evening over this forecast - grrr!!

Just got a notification here telling me that 'rain will start in 30 mins'. Thing is, it's been pissing out of the heavens for the last hour. I'll say it again but that Shannon Radar, which the entire west of Ireland depends on, is totally and utterly feckin' useless.

Edit, torrential rain again with low vis.

2.4mm of rain so far today in Sligo. Look at radar and see our charmed life.

Have you no Gauge to measure all this rain?

Heavy rain in South Sligo now.

Bit of a heatwave due next week so this rain will be needed as long as it doesn't cause any localised flooding

Amazing summer evening in DUB airport, everything passed to the north of us. Would have preferred the show but 2nd best will do.

Radar animation (the original and best) from Met Eireann for this eve: Seems to be more heavy showers breaking out over the east midlands at the mo:

Wind has picked up here and still raining but with just an 'ordinary' heaviness. Looks like about 4pm on a December evening. Makes me yearn all the more for an end to this insufferable season.

Not a drop of rain here in Rathangan, Kildare. Plenty of scary clouds and some misty drops earlier. Humid as hell!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,178 ✭✭✭pauldry

    Still only 2.4mm in Sligo

    Phone beats Met Eireann

    It said 0 to 3mm
    Met said 25 to 40mm

    They must hv meant Claremorris

Just over 45mm in the space of two hours, some videos up on Facebook of it.

We seem to have missed the worst of this in Achill for once. Sky is brightening from the north.

Navan was the place to be today. Thunder started around 5pm, then sparks and torrential rain with some great cracks of thunder. Lasted for the 90 mins I was outdoors.

Fell asleep very early. with a familiar lullaby of drumming rain and howling wind. ... calm now, grey and dark. The summer is passing.

49mm of rain in Claremorris in 24hrs so that 34mm in one hour was right

We had a hourly fall of 26.1mm here yesterday, with 20.1 of that falling in less than 15 mins, so considering that this shower intensified further as it moved north from here, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Claremorris' 34mm hourly total is valid.
