Current Weather Conditions - March 2020.

Cracking day in Cork City. Clear skies all around and warm in the sunshine. It's been close to 6 months since we've had this weather.

Nice morning but clouded over again , just like yesterday. Feeling baltic in the onshore breeze.

Finally some sun this afternoon but feeling cold in the breeze.

Mostly overcast with a few light drops of rain earlier. 3.5c, 1047.5 hPa. Limk City.

12th dry day in a row here, heading towards a rare potential absolute drought territory (15 days) looking at the fax charts.

The wind finally has backed off from the sea, actually quite pleasant out in the sun this afternoon. Glad to see the back of that damp cold wind.

Winter has come and gone, did it ever actually arrive?
What is remarkable for Winter and early spring (March) this year has been the lack of frost or cold days.
In fact picking an arbitrary marker of a max temperature of 8C being the dividing line, we had less "cold days" here since I started recording back in 2011 :



There were new record warm temperatures in January 7th and February 28th of 17.6 and 15.5 C respectively, the January one being a full 1.5C higher than the previous record of 16.1C back in January 9th 2015.

March was my driest March on record with 26mm but the first three months have averaged out pretty average in terms over overall rainfall amount. February was fairly wet but only in third place over the 10 years I have been recording here so nothing remarkable. That said there was 26 days with rain measured in February which did probably make if feel much wetter than normal but daily amounts were not spectacular. The wettest day of the year so far being February 9th with 31mm recorded.

No snow lay this winter and honestly and I can only recall one day which it did actually fall when mixed with hail (February 11th).

The only thing I'll likely remember from the winter just gone is cutting the grass in a t-shirt in January on 7th, the result of a SSW fohn wind coming of the Wicklow mountains which pretty much year round always delivers the warmest weather here.
