Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

...so a Turbo R GT, sold as junk is going for over €1000.

    :(

Wow that some money for a junker !! Those 1chip units seem fairly rare as well.

Alas yes. There's a couple non-working on eBay for around £400-450 too, though ST models, not GT. But without some soldering skills of the likes of yours, it's a big risk for a lot of money. 1Chip systems are presently £900 on eBay. One went this week on the MSX.org site for €500 which in comparison appears to be a bargain.

Personally I'd really like the GT Turbo R, but at those prices for a junker they can jog on and rot. Such a shame the price of MSX gear is so ridiculous. Blue MSX is nice though... :)

    I'd say it'll go up to 100 ...

the Philips MSX2 vg8235 is a good model and not as expensive as the sony models especially from dutch or german selles

It has a BIN of €65 though? Although the postage is fairly hefty on it.

I take it EU models are cripped at 50hz though, so probably best avoided anyway?

oops didn't even spot that sorry.
actually discard it altogether, the item description isn't encouraging :)
"Items are sold as 'defect' due to their vintage nature. For example: When I test an item as working, I might be broken by the time it arrives at your doorstep. "

    it'll run at 50hz yes.
I must say for me it's more about the nostalgia factor than anything else so I'm happy having the same experience with it I had as a kid ; ie : 50hz
but if you're after the 60hz experience it'll have to be a jap import yes, they're not the easiest beasts to mod (although it's been done)

For me it's a Turbo R or nothing!*

*so nothing then. Not paying a grand plus for a junker! :pac:

Plan formulating. Would it be rude to ask him to bring me back a x68000, pc98, pc88, a msx and a sharp mz-1?

    thanks :)
    what link though ?

EDIT : oh the link in my profile . i see.
yeah I use to do a lot of art. I still have a few paintings at the Apolo/Duke street Gallery and a few others in Ireland.
    http://www.dukestreetgallery.ie/store/category/376/215/Olivier-Longuet/

gave it up though, I was doing well but kinda burned out with it... and I wasn't playing any more music. The Duke street gallery even sent a film crew to do a promo video :

..very artsy fartsy and self indulgent, and one of the reasons I stopped :)

In case you can't get enough of my monotone voice, here's a new MSX Mansion video on Konami's Knightmare :

BTW, hope it's ok to post these here when I release them. Don't want to look like I'm plugging my stuff... which I am, I suppose... but don't want to look like I'm doing it :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,725 ✭✭✭The Last Bandit

Very entertaining so post away I say (but I'm not in charge :) ). What software are you using to put together the video ? Are you the capturing the video from a MSX or using an emulator ? I'm really stupid when it comes to this stuff :(

I wouldn't say your voice is monotone, sounds more like Fr. Dougal after spending the summer in France :)

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,847 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Keep posting them, there's really not enough MSX information out there.

One game I really want to play on MSX is War of the Dead 2, looks really interesting and has a fan translation. It's like a videogame version of a ****ty 90's anime OVA.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,214 ✭✭✭STG.Otaku

I demand a video about the Aleste MSX games!

    Just two conditions though...

Make it sexy. Make it premium.

    YEAH! :)

I knew about it but never got to play it. I'm working on a deal for this one & Last Armagedon and a couple of others, so it might happen :)

just told my wife about it ...first she laughed , then she went... "actually, yeah" :D

Would we ask for anything less than for this thread? ;)

    So in summary:
    • Aleste 2
    • Aleste Gaiden
    • Sexy
    • Premium
    • Feverish
    • Played on a Turbo R (TBC)
Just ensure it's sexy and premium. The rest should just fall in to place.

there was a recent port of Street Fighter 2 on th MSX2.
It was led by a team of devs guys but essentially made by the whole active MSX.org community who helped with advice, code, tips and graphical and sound contributions. The result is quite amazing considering the MSX2 is z80 based, a lot closer to a NES than SNES by miles, doesn't really handle large sprites or digitized sounds , fast sprite copying etc...

    Better than the c64 version.
