It just seems to be a Bloodborne issue but in a game where you die an awful lot and have to sit through a very plain loading screen for 40-50 seconds it can get infuriating.

Least you dont have to rewind the tape i guess and wait 20 mins.

The developers are supposed to release a patch for the loading times.

On another note the Nightmare Frontier level is jawdropping.

Playing some Jetstrike on the Amiga CD32 after getting reminded of it in the latest Retro gamer magazine.
Really enjoyed this at the time and the playability really holds up, its a lot of fun and gets pretty tough later on :)

Granted its not the most entertaining game in the world but
the quality of the console. makes it playable.

Had a blast of SF2: CE (the best SF2!) there on the bartop....managed to 1cc it with Ryu!

Started Mother 3, I've been putting it off long enough :o I'm about an hour in so far & it looks like it's gonna be every bit as good as Earthbound

What format are you playing it on?

A format that'd get me perma-banned form this forum I'm afraid :o Though I will say this, filters and scanlines have made the game look really nice on the bigger screen of the bartop.

I've a flash card here for the GBA but I really can't be arsed playing on the hand murdering SP, & the stock launch GBA's screen is poo. So for this one, I've had to go to the dark side...

I absolutely adored Mother 3. The short length and the perfectly paced episodes made it much easier to get through than other RPGs. I kind of prefer how arty Earthbound is, Mother 3 is kind of spelled out for the player but the ending really is a knockout. Most other games go for high emotion, nothing wrong with that and it can be done very well like in the Last of Us. However the Mother games just does something very different, very emotional, poignant moments where nothing has really happened and the closest I've experienced to it is Murakami's short stories.

Are you still able to do the rhythm-chain during combat?

I haven't seem to come to those parts yet, I'm not that far into it. What is the chain, a combination of L, R, B & A?

It's in the combat from the get-go. If you can match pressing A with the rhythm of the backing-track, your damage multiplies. The more you match, the more it multiplies. It sounds like a gamebreaker, but it's tricky. I struggled to do it.

Same, I could barely manage it through the whole.game. if I did it was a complete fluke!

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,845 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

I found it pretty easy to do in most battles although some mess up the tempo to screw with you. Most tracks you just have to pick out the instrument to tap along to but others are far more difficult to get the rhythm down. Definitely worth experimenting with since there's no negative effect to trying and it makes the battles way more interesting.

Super E.D.F. for Snes. Homing seems by far the best so far. I made it to stage 3 before losing continues. Pretty hard so far.

Spend a few hours on 'Gun' on the Xbox, pretty decent game. Not sure who the devs were but definitely 'Red Dead Redemption' owes it a lot.

Red Dead Redemption is a sequel to a game called Red Dead Revolver, which predates GUN by over a year.

Yeah, I know I'm being pedantic, but you would not believe how long I have had that nugget of knowledge festering in the bowels on my sorry mind, just waiting for it to even approach relevance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,725 ✭✭✭The Last Bandit

I know, I've played RDRevolver as well. But it terms of gameplay, Redempton is much much closer to Gun than it is to Revolver (which got boring pretty quickly I though).

Playing Extreme Warfare Revenge again If that counts as "Retro" or as a "game" :o

I loved Revolver but it was a much more linear affair than Redemption but there was a considerable length of time between the two releases, we forget that where as the GTA series had so many regular episodes over the years.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,845 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Thought Revolver was well meh which is why redemption surprised me so much. RDRevolver had a weird development cycle. It was a Capcom game before getting sold to Rockstar just before they cancelled it.

The new minty fresh PGM mobo came out today, woah is it completely fresh. Mintiest looking piece of arcade hardware I've ever seen.

Gave The Gladiator a run through on the Aero. What a game. A lot of Taiwanese games have dodgy animation, but this stuff is beautiful.

Think I'll give Demon Front a go this evening.

Started final fantasy x a few nights ago. Had never played it before so I picked up the hd remake on ps vita. Have to say I'm loving it so far even though ive only played it for an hour or two. It's the first final fantasy I have played since 8 (can't believe it's 16 years since I played this great franchise) My main concern is that I won't stick with it, I'm finding it more and more difficult to find the time to put into games lately and the idea of putting in up to 100 hours on one game seems impossible to me!

Still going with Mother 3, getting a half hour here & there when I can. So far its...good, but not gripping me as much as Earthbound did. Hopefully that'll change the more I get into it. I'm only at the (first?) castle, that blasted composer is holding me up badly though :(

Right, I had to go back to rpg school & refresh my knowledge of battle skills. Got through that castle in one go, I really hadn't been playing correctly. Onwards!

Progressing along in Mother 3 much better now. Still early days, I've only started Death Desert. How many chapters are in the game?

As an aside, I ramped the dip switch difficulty settings of SF2: CE up to 7 (max) to see how I'd fare out. Took two attempts, but I 1cc'd it there, only losing three rounds all together (1 to Chun Li, 1 to Dhalsim, & 1 to Bison). Now, to tackle Hyper Fighting on full difficulty...I can't quite remember, but I don't think I ever cleared (1cc'd) HF in the arcade....time to put that right...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,783 ✭✭✭eddhorse

Played a bit of 1942 and original Pacman on the 60-in-1.

I really do like 1942, i presume people that are good at cave shooters find it very easy? I only got through about 5 stages.

Feck, HF is much tougher on full difficulty! I nearly made it to Balrog there, but f**k you Guile, f**k you!

Followed that with a blast of Rebel Strike on the GC, though one of the non sh1te levels!

I've started Chapter 4, and am finding the start of this chapter a bit slow. No doubt it'll pick up. I can see the game beginning to tie the story together now, which is nice.

Playing Xenoblade Chronicles on the 3DS, really getting into it, 3DS battery dies - realised I gave my girlfriend a lend of my 3DS charger when she went away on holidays.

    vader.jpg

I also have Metroid Prime on the go too so guess I'll just have to fill my days with that.

I haven't played it since back in the Gamecube days so it's my first go with the Wiimote - holy **** did Nintendo really nail it with the controls  they're perfect.

    Yeah, Xenoblade can wait :pac:

Ok so I know it's not exactly Retro but it is based off of Streets of Rage... kinda.

It's built with the Beats of Rage open source engine (think open source Streets of Rage).

For any Power Rangers fans out there it's pretty cool:
    https://gamejolt.com/games/arcade/power-rangers-beats-of-power/30577/

    Beats of Power it's called.

It's kinda like a cross between the best of the SNES and Megadrive games of that era but enhanced with better sounds and video.

Even if you're not a fan of Power Rangers I recommend that you check it out. It has a pretty decent difficulty curve too as you can see from my following archived Twitch stream:

I may or may not have ragequit at the end of this video...

Near the end of Chapter 5 now I reckon (I'm at the
robot defence section at the top of the tower
). Enjoying the game more so than I was at the start I have to say, it's a lovely little game really.

Made it to Sagat in SF2: HF on max difficulty, which marks the furthest I've gotten in that game on 1 credit. Nearly there, the AI can be bloody cheap in this game but nothing compared to SSF2T

Played some Vania 3 and Gimmick. They sound so good with the extra sound chips in the Famicom carts but them being balls hard and the Jetlag means I'm even more cackhanded than usual.

I have it, played it for about ten minutes on release and found the controls weird.
I guess I was spoiled by the MotoGP game on the Xbox 360 by then, it just got the control so right.

Played the original Mario Kart with my cousin who came overseas today on the SFC, It was his first time playing it since the early 90s so it was a trip down memory lane for him.

Also have been playing Mariokart Wii a lot lately.
Especially the kids in the extended family have all been going mad for that one.

I love how unpredictable the final result can be.
