As the Irish Economy thread is closed i didn't know where else to post.

Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is an international human rights treaty of the United Nations intended to protect the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities

Ireland signed the CPRD in March 2007. However, Ireland is one of the few Member States of the EU yet to ratify the Convention. Ratification is expected sometime in 2016

Did Ireland Ratify it yet?

The General Scheme of the Equality/Disability (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill is available on the Department's website. I expect to publish the Bill shortly so as to facilitate ratification of the Convention by end-2016.

The assisted decision making (capacity) legislation must be in place before we can ratify the UNCRPD. There are only a few parts of it signed in to law and in effect currently. I doubt it will be ratified in 2016.

The capacity law is in place. Minister Finian McGrath said 6 months ago the UNCRPD would be ratified within 6 months
