After the new t&c storm earlier in the year, I see WhatsApp have come back for a second bite of the cherry. This time, like last time, I'll be refusing to agree and I'll lose access to the platform in mid May. This will be harder than leaving Facebook, as the platform is so ubiquitous. The vast majority of my most frequently contacted people have moved to signal however.

I know some people have had concerns around privacy and that's why they've made their decision on whatsapp, but for me it's the endless commodification of my personal data. I'm getting really tired of being the product (yes I see the irony in posting content on boards).

Will you be accepting the new terms? Or has the pushback from earlier in the year died out?

Storm in a teacup really. I think a lot of people started complaining about it without really understanding what they were proposing to do and not realising that most of it didn't apply to Europe.

As we pointed out earlier, the above privacy policy overhaul applies to WhatsApp users outside Facebook's so-called European Region, an area that includes the UK

My contacts included many people in Australia and The USA. Will their info be passed on?

I have Signal and Telegram and more and more people I know join those.

Having to go through multiple apps to just message somebody is a pain in the hole, it's not like I'm sending state secrets ffs.

For me, is not really about the privacy, as like yourself in not exactly working for the secret service.

My concern is about the increasing commercialisation of my private data and intrusive advertising

I accepted them the other day, no intention of switching until it’s worthwhile for me to.

Have WhatsApp on my personal phone and don't have it on my work phone, if they want to see what I'm texting herself about when I ask what she wants for dinner then let em Snoop.

I don't send secrets stuff either but I also prefer letters over postcards.
Personal privacy is fragile and we need to protect it from people that will use it to make money from our information.
