La Liga are marketing themselves so well these days (or selling out, whichever way you wanna look at it).

Between staggered kickoffs all weekend for the Asian market, now this:

That has nothing to do with La Liga who themselves are critical about the move.

Spanish state telly declines to bid for Super Cup nonsense
“RTVE will not join the bidding to buy the rights to broadcast the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia because this country violates human rights, especially women’s rights in the area of sport,” said Jesús Álvarez, RTVE’s head of sport. “It’s a country where until very recently women couldn’t go to watch football. Human rights are fundamental to this corporation, which has made a big push for women’s sport in the last few years.”

Bale has surely played his last game for Real after posing with a flag that displayed "Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order"

Nah he'll be booed a bit in the first game back and then play all season.

Naw he won't. He'll be gone in January if Madrid can find anyone offering any money.

Unless of course Bale holds out to keep picking up the handy wage.

If he knew about the flag and the message, I have to say it was very disrespectful.

And he missed the last 6 Madrid games with injury, but ok to play for Wales. Giggs Mk2.

Barca 1down at ht away to bottom of the league leganes. Been pretty poor as well

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Barca are blessed with that second goal. Not exactly something from the training ground.

Yet another draw for Atletico as they're held away at Granada. Their 7th in 14 games which is the joint-highest. Betis meanwhile grabbed a 93rd minute winner at home to Valencia.

Looking forward to Real Madrid vs Sociedad this evening from 8. Sociedad won this fixture last season and they're playing some good stuff. I'm sure Odegaard will be looking to impress against his parent club. Hopefully a few goals in it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

1-0 Sociedad. Ramos with a terrible pass back and Willian Jose nips in to score.

Benzema equalises for Madrid. Haven't been at their best in this game, the home side. Sociedad being brave in their approach.

Curious to see if Bale gets on at some stage. His name was loudly jeered when it was read out, to no one's surprise.

1-1 at half-time which feels like a fair scoreline. Sociedad started strong and pressed high but as the half wore on were mostly in their own half. Odegaard looking good for the away side. Young Rodrygo not in the game so far for Madrid. Hazard's been disappointing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

2-1. Madrid have turned it around. Valverde's shot takes a big deflection and beats the keeper. Maybe Bale won't be needed tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Bale comes on for the final 20 odd minutes.

Whistles. Curses. Middle fingers. In that order. :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

3-1 Madrid. That might be the result. Bale involved in the move as his cross headed down by Benzema and finished off by Modric. Madrid fans still jeering his every touch.

Full-Time: It ends 3-1 to Madrid. Deserved win in the end. They stepped it up in the second half and Sociedad had no answer. Benzema very good as usual. Hazard a lot better in the second half, resembling his old self. Bale was a lot more effective in his late cameo than Rodrygo. Some of the fans did applaud his efforts but it was mostly jeers. I'd play him against PSG on Tuesday based on the evidence of this game. Ramos had more than one lapse in concentration and he'll need to do a lot better against Paris.

Watched the Valladolid/Sevilla game which the away side won 1-0. Banega scoring a pen having had his first one saved; Masip saved his original spot kick but VAR correctly showed he was way off his line. Sevilla's Ocampos was sent off near the end for losing his cool with the ref. Was a poor quality game in truth. Thought Sevilla's Diego Carlos was the MOTM as he was very strong in defence. Sevilla up to third now, a point off top spot.

Surprised that Celta Vigo won away at Villarreal. That's a big result for them, although they're still third from bottom. Aspas with a brace.

I think Bale is brilliant... He literally doesn't give a toss at this stage about his relationship with anyone in Madrid but when he plays for Madrid he does well and by all accounts is very professional in training.

Great goal scored by Odegaard today for Sociedad in their 4-1 win over Eibar.

    https://twitter.com/ElevenSports_PT/status/1200913488618696704

He also got an assist in the game. He's developing into a top player.

Madrid beat Alaves 2-1 to go 3 points clear for the time being. Courtois was dropped for Areola which I think has been on the cards for a while now.

Atletico vs Barca the big game tomorrow evening. Atletico's last two games in that fixture have finished 1-1 and they love their draws this season so it could be another close one. Hope Atletico win to keep the race fairly open.

Athletic club up by one at half time via a penalty scored by Raul Garcia. Williams looks sharp so here's hoping they can get a few more to jump Sociedad on goal difference.
    Sevilla got the win earlier.

Forgot to post yesterday. Betis had a good win yesterday away to Mallorca that puts them closer to the top 10 and further away from the relegation places. Fekir's goal is worth checking out for those that have not seen it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Watched Espanyol vs Osasuna and the home side were a shambles. Decent first half and they led 1-0 at the break but collapsed early in the second half concededing two goals. They then got a lifeline with Osasuna going down to ten men, only for the ten men to add another two goals. Final score was 4-2 to the visitors with Espanyol fans going mad at the end. Was impressed by Osasuna's Chimy Avila and Pervis Estupinan.

Atletico vs Barcelona is on at 8 o'clock tonight. Humming and hawing about watching it as neither have been exactly fun to watch when I seen them this season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    Teams are in:
Atletico Madrid XI: Oblak; Trippier, Felipe, Hermoso, Saul; Correa, Herrera, Thomas, Koke; Felix, Morata.

Barcelona XI: Ter Stegen; Roberto, Pique, Lenglet, Firpo; Rakitic, de Jong, Arthur; Messi, Suarez, Griezmann.

I'd be worried for Atletico with that defence. Gimenez is a big loss. Saul preferred at LB to Lodi. I think Oblak will need a strong performance if they're to get a result.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Ter Stegen has been Barca's best player. Made two big saves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

How the hell does Pique get away with that? Shocking decision to let him stay on the pitch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

If that's given as a foul how is that not a second yellow??

    Ridiculous.

And now a booking for this? Shambolic by the ref

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Lahoz taking the mick. Should have booked Rakitic in the first half and didn't.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,564 ✭✭✭RugbyLover123

2 awful decisions there. Really really bad. And that ref is usually ok anytime I've seen him in CL.

Thought he should have played it to Griezmann but he knew what he was doing.

Messi goal. Well taken, lovely play.

    Those commentators are terrible though

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Messi wins it for Barca & the hapless Valverde. Atletico are a shadow of what they were though, absolutely no quality going forward when Felix went off.

The sound is awful. They sound like they’re in a container. All way to close to the mics too

Massive 3 points for Barca to go back top. Harsh on Atletico who defended better than I expected. Thought Hermoso had a good game. Ter Stegen's saves turned out to be significant and I reckon Barca should have been down to ten men too.

ZZZZZZZZ Barca have the league won since August ... joke of a competition.

Only one decent team in that whole league, no wonder they win it literally every single year.

Messi has scored that exact same goal at least 150 times in his career I reckon. Cut in from the left, 1-2, curler inside the post. He is pure class.

How about Liverpool in the Prem?

How about Liverpool in the Prem?

    Top 5 leagues so far:
Liverpool - 8 point lead - no defeats.

    PSG - 5 point lead (w/ game in hand) - 3 defeats.

    Gladbach - 1 point lead - 3 defeats.

    Inter - 1 point lead - 1 defeat.

Barcelona - level with Madrid - 3 defeats.

Which one looks to have the worst competition?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Another draw for Atletico as they have a stalemate with Villarreal. They're 6th as it stands. That's 8 draws in the league which is the highest of any team. Only 1 win in their last 8 matches. There's been some speculation that Simeone's job could be under threat. Think they'd be mad to get rid of him.

They look a bit of a mess right now. Not all of it leaves Simeone blameless either.
I don't get why he occasionally plays Saul at left back, Koke hasn't really played well for a few years, Lemar is basically not being used, Felix is struggling to flourish with the style they play like most creative players do & anyone with a brain cell knew a team relying on Diego Costa, Angel Correa & Alvaro Morata for goals would struggle to score.
They made a lot of changes this summer but most named above are there longer than 6 months.

That Suarez goal was just ridiculous.

And Messi being Messi but that's par for the course.

Messi has normalised his genius. Just another incredible day at the office.

Messi's first would normally be goal of the game anywhere else. A remarkable strike, almost massaged from distance and little set up right into the top corner. His second is the repeat of the winner at Atletico and the last second winner at the Bernabeu a few years ago.

Joaquín has scored a brilliant hat-trick here in the first half against Bilbao. Not bad for a 38 year old. Game is 3-1 at half time.

    We survived, 3-2. Thank fúck.

Top two held to draws this weekend in what were two tough away fixtures. Madrid's point at Valencia was dramatic as Courtois came up in the dying seconds for a corner and got on the end of the cross. Keeper saved and Benzema tucked in the rebound. Benzema has been immense this season. I think he's the only one that has a chance of pipping Messi to the POTS award.

Both Barca and Madrid are on the same points going into Wednesday's game at the Camp Nou. Set up to be a cracker.
