One of those main events for me where I kinda don't want either guy to lose. I'm picking Max but only because he looks near unbeatable at featherweight the last few years.

Cyborg should be finishing this inside a round to make a statement for a rematch. She is all but guaranteed one provided she wins and signs a new contract anyway of course.

This card stinks so bad it looks like they've had to close the upper deck in the arena (or they are comping the whole upper deck). It's barely even a fight night card, the cards really have fallen off a cliff, I find myself not watching most now, where as I used to watch 90% of them.

Main event is really solid, rest really meh.

Think Max will handily dispatch Edgar, also can't see Cyborg losing against Spencer.

Fixed your poll and thread title - poll only usually has the outcomes of the title fight(s)

Upset on the cards with Frankie for the win?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,417 ✭✭✭Beersmith

Also frankie doesn't deserve this fight. On a 1 fight win streak.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 12,812 Mod ✭✭✭✭riffmongous

I'm a major Frankie fan but I can't see him winning, not convinced he deserves the shot either after that bad Ortega loss and just one win.

    Which main event? :pac:

Frankie had the title shot secured, all he had to do was wait for Holloway to be ready and the shot was his. Rather than sitting out and waiting for his title shot he decided to help save an event and fight Ortega on short notice.

Ortega won that fight against Frankie and he rightfully got the next shot after that fight at Max but its now Frankies turn! When Frankie fought Ortega he was being a company man and should be rewarded for it in my opinion.

I know it was a ling time ago, But Edgar Maynard III proves Frankie doesn't get dispatched easily.

Max to pepper him for 5 rounds. I'd love Frankie to do it though.
    Which main event? :pac:

 There's only one main event

That is bizarre logic. Yes he risked his title shot and lost.

He also shouldn't have been guaranteed anything as he was only on a two fight win streak at that time.

Google has the Cyborg fight as co-main, seems to be the only place that has it though.

Max and Frankie is the main event.

Yes, I know. Google, however referred to the Cyborg fight as co-main. Unfortunately I didn't check that that was the same everywhere so my attempt at a joke didn't land.

But Cyborg v Spencer IS the Co-Main event.

    I'm confused!

Can't help but think Max is coming back way too soon.

Max hasn't looked in trouble at FW. Think it may have been prudent to let an interim play out and return end of year earliest.

Can't see much incentive here. Or, another option may have been allowing ample time for his physique to be primed for LW.

I think frankie will just about come up short but I do think he'll do better than most who've fought holloway and possibly lose on points.

Haven't been following MMA as much as I used to but this seems like a really bad card for a numbered event. But often it's these kind of cards that surprise you.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,812 ✭✭✭Eoinbmw

Frankie will be retired after this fight!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,532 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

Great scrap so far between Pantoja and Figueiredo to kick off the prelims.

Damn. Great showing by Felicia though.
Funny (and pretty unprofessional) Joe Rogan getting all confused over the main/co main 3/5 round thing!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,938 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Cyborg was brilliant, surprised that Spencer was able to stay standing with all the punishment she took.
I was wondering what Rogan was at, started questioning myself about whether there was some title I didn't know about.

Max is just so good, so smart too.
Good thing for Edgar in that fight is that he showed he still has a chin. He needed that after his last fight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 988 ✭✭✭brendanwalsh

    Edgar is done.
Holloway is in a weird spot. Too weak for 55, but totallly cleaned out 45....biggest match now for max is a mctapper rematch

Why do people still say this? It's not funny or witty and makes you look like a 7 year old with the IQ of a brick

I usually think Joe Rogan is an uninformed idiot but he really went out of his way to sound stupid last night during the Cyborg fight.

Spencer was getting absolutely pieced up but he made it sound like Cris was going to die every time Spencer landed a jab. He really doesn't have a clue and his bias against certain fighters is so obvious.

Thats what happens when theres a dull card. A dull night of fights.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 12,812 Mod ✭✭✭✭riffmongous

I only bothered to watch the Cyborg fight, nice elbow from Spencer at the start and credit to her for hanging in there and throwing back for the rest of the fight cause Cyborg really landed some nice shots. I really want to see that Nunes rematch now

I was going to actually stay up for this PPV but at the last minute I decided against it (Thankfully)

Cyborg looked good int that fight and nice to see her get a win after the Nunes loss. Dana is being a total d1ck saying sh1t like "Cyborg is in the twilight of her career", claiming last night was a bad performance and also saying she doesn't want to fight Nunes when she clearly does. Dana has always had a thing against Cyborg, back since Rhonda was ducking her.

I was hoping Frankie would win last night but my god Holloway is the man :D I still think Conor would beat Holloway handily enough though, if Dustin can beat Max then so can McGregor. Next fight I want to see for Holloway is vs Zabit but Volkanovski is due a title shot so that will be first.

Looked like a fairly dull card overall

One or two OK fights but fairly poor for a numbered event.

pity it'll never happen but I doubt he'd beat max at this stage of max's
career especially over five at fw....lw would be more interesting but there's bigger money fights out there for conor

volkanovski surely deserves the next shot but with the likes of him and zabit at least it means max will have some interesting challenges ahead but
would personally like to see volkan fight max

I don't think so. He is older, Max is only hitting his prime. Max learns from every fight. He can keep it at distance and score heavily, Conor's chin isn't that great either.
I don't think Conor beats Max at featherweight or Tony at lightweight.

Yeah. Getting older and been inactive
Just think he always had a lot of power at 145. Wonder whats next for max though. Think he is best to stick at 45 but not sure many there xan challenge him

Conor's chin ain't that great? Which knockout made you think that?

He was wobbled by Diaz, Mayweather tko'd him.

Wobbled and took some very heavy shots. Mayweather is maybe the best boxer ever. Khabib caught him with a beauty and he took it well.

    His chin is fine.

A stoppage vrs a 50-0 pro boxer means he has a bad chin?

Got hit a lot aswell and didn't go down. Was moaning at the ref immediately after too.

I'm just replying to a guy who suggested he had a jaw of granite.
And Floyd is one of the greatest ever boxers but he is not known for his power. In fact he had one stoppage in the previous ten years before Conor.
I'm not saying Conor is made of glass, far from it, just saying he has been hurt by punches before.

Did you bring up the chin first?
Floyd isn’t know for his power. It was a TKO not a KO. It was stopped because he was landing volume. Not because Conor was out on his feet.

Having a good chin doesn’t mean you are invulnerable to punches. Based on all of Conor’s fights. I think the evidence points to Conor a good chin more than anything else.

There are more obvious attributes to criticise imo. Especially when talking about a rematch with Max.

Being "wobbled" once in a pro career doesn't indicate a dodgy chin.

Also, your Mayweather example shows the opposite. The ref had to stop the fight because Mayweather couldn't put McGregor away.
