Had a root canal treatment 5 years ago on a molar.

Part of this tooth broke off 2 nights ago while eating.

I went to the dentist today (the surgery I attend seems to have a high turnover of staff as it happens...) and they did an x-ray. The dentist seemed concerned and explained that there is decay in the tooth. She was reluctant to do anything to it as she said it may cause further breakage.

I am now back home with a temporary filling and waiting for a phone call from a specialist.

I'm not currently in any pain so I'm not concerned from that point of view.

What I am concerned about is that I had the tooth next to it extracted some years ago so I'd prefer not to lose this one as well...

Just wondering about possible options and the likely cost of same.

Get a crown on the tooth assuming it has not fractured too badly. All teeth bar a few exceptions should gets crowns after root canal treatment. 600 - 1000 euro depending on who does it.

    Thanks for the info.

Excuse my ignorance, but do you happen to know if it's common practice to split the payment of such treatments so that it's not all due at once? Is this something that dental practices will facilitate (in general)?

Usually they will but not over long periods of time.
