Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How can a successful businessman go through life mispronouncing one of the biggest auditors in the world.
His add for "Earnest" and Young is just bad.

Some people have way too much to complain about.

Also why do people call Goodbody Stockbrokers, 'GoodBUDDY Stockbrokers'?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,681 ✭✭✭ColeTrain

    Outrageous, it really is

I would forgive Mr. Kerr given that his background is business and not broadcasting. Also, Newstalk is privately owned and so they can hire who they like, pretty much.

I have a serious problem with the many MANY broadcasters on the state funded RTE who have a brutal grasp of basic grammar and pronunciation though.

It can't be that hard to get people who can speak properly can it?

How can some people go through life not knowing how to spell "ad" correctly?

Oh well, never mind. Better luck next time, OP.

And yes - Kerr is AWFUL on the radio.

Eh, sure our own Taoiseach can't pronounce his own name.

    It's ENda, not Inda!

Earnest and Young wouldn't have let Anglo slip so much by them.

Bobby Kerr should do less broadcasting and make fresher sandwiches

His voice bugs the piss out of me, have to switch it over whenever he's on. Of course Newstalk do have Marc Coleman, author of The Best is Yet to Come as their Head of Business or whatever title he's carrying.

This book, published late 2007, tells us all how, far from the bubble bursting, we are actually on the cusp of a Golden Age that could last 30 years or more!!

I for one thoroughly enjoy listening to his programme whilst dying on a sunday morning.

That accolade should go to George Hook, interrupting guests, spitting into the mike and going on and on about lovely Ingrid.
Hate presenters discussing their families on air, as if we gave a sh*t. Tom Dunne is another offender.

And pronounces the number 'six' as 'sex'....*shudders*

He's not even the worst on Newstalk. Nora Casey on their breakfast show manages to be ignorant, patronising and ill-informed all in the same breath. She's unlistenable.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Newstalk seems to be collecting together a sort of Avengers Ensemble of lousy speakers

Chris Donohue - ball bearings in a biscuit tin.
Nora Casey - giggle, hmm, yes, ahh
    Hooky - rambling gargly noises
Moncreif - ah, eh, oo, hmm, mmm
    Kerr - mumbleybumblystuff
Coleman - hack, krrrrr, cough, squlch

No fan of Nora but Bobby is on a different level especially on one of his outside broadcasts, all thats missing is the circus music in the background

I always get the impression Casey is playing footsy with Chris in the mornings. The flirting is vommit-inducing. She's fundamentally an airhead. Take away "business" and "woman" from her vocabulary and she has nothing to say

Montcrief is the best thing on radio. All verbal ticks forgiven.

While we're on the subject of mispronunciation, those 'Maraton Sports Travel' ad's annoy me more than they possibly should.

He's pretty bad, but the worst has to be the foreign lady who hosts a show on Newstalk either on a Saturday or Sunday evening. She's a terrible interviewer, misses links, leaves long pauses between links and is generally really amateurish when presenting.

Never heard anyone as bad on the radio.

Sean's surely morphed into Elmer Fudd - his delivery oft-punctuated by a series of staccato eh, em, uh, b.b..but's etc.

I used to enjoy Moncrieff and I know it's a minority view, but the show kinda grates when I catch it now.

It reminds me of a drawn out version of 'And finally...' on ITN News - too much fluff like alien abductees, hipster American authors and myriad other wacky but all too familiar items. It's mildly amusing on occasion but the way some people go on, you'd think Sean was a frickin' comedy God.

I was sent on a corporate ethnic sensitivity training course some years ago given by a certain woman ( i believe the afternoon( 2 - 5) course cost somewhere in the region of 10k - boom times )

I would be a fairly quiet person but could not bite my lip any more when she accused the class of being racist because they worked for a company who hired qualified candidates over unqualified

when I and some others questioned her on this she unleashed a list of similar issues she has(with Irish people I believe ) which she considers as racism including people who has an issue with welfare fraud

not sure if this is relevant to this thread but have waited since 2007 to tell this story as i don't know anyone who listens to any show on newstalk on saturday nights with whom i could share this

These "wacky stories" which have usually been on a minimum of BBC, theJournal.ie and Broadsheet.ie for at least three days before one of his "researchers" passes them to him to read on air.

Blokes on the radio that mention their missus all the time are usually cheating and on cocaine.
    Probably.

Ray D'arcy took it one step further and started playing happy families with his co-presenter. Needless to say, I don't listen to his show anymore.

No, Keith Duffy. As in the guy from Boyzone.

Every now and then, he pops up on 98fm for a couple of weeks. For sheer comedy value, he's worth a listen.
