A very real looking set of tweets has emanated from the noted former TCD politics lecturer (and specialist in corruption) indicating that she intends running for FF in Ireland South in the Euro elections.

Surely this is a slightly belated April fools?

The tweets from Byrne were all sent on Tuesday afternoon (too late to count as an April fool), and looked very convincing. I am trying to contact her for more info.

If anyone else knows anything, can you please reply to this thread?

It was an April Fool....she's in Australia now working in Sydney so the timing wasn't too late for her :)

I sent a message to the Sydney workplace which Elaine lists on her blog and have been told she no longer works there.

The "contact" thing on her blog is not working - neither her blog nor her facebook have been updated for some time.

I saw a tweet from her from Alice Speings this morning.

In any case, she is one hard gal to track down.

That was an April Fool's unfortunately! We could do with people like Elaine Byrne in the Dáil, wouldn't care what party she ran for.

By now I suppose it must have been.

Still, I think (a) the tweets were chillingly realistic and arguably too subtle for an AF, and (b) she could have shown the courtesy to let people know later that it was only an AF.
