Congrats Doofer, great stuff. Did a proper job on us. As I've said looking real good this year. Should get a few bums on seats and, more good news, next weeks game from the stoop is televised. Reckon you should make the trip!!!

Amazed, we have had a great start to the season which should give our new coach a bit of confidence. Would love to go over and see them, might need a lotto win first though!!!

    Absolutely delighted.

Another strange start to the season. Hope it's not another false dawn like last season and we get a few new teams truly challenging the old guard.

It is nothing new though for Saints to give the early season impression that they aren't as good as they used to be and then to gather momentum as the season progresses.

Always think that this is the best time to meet the 'big' teams and cause an upset before they get into their stride.

+1. RL desperately needs this. I would love to see Quins, Cas, Wakey doing well this season. certainly really like what I'm seeing from Cas and Quins in particular (cant judge Wakey properly because that Catalans team last weekend were a bad joke), but the question is, do they have the strength in depth for a long attritional season. Anyway I certainly hope this is a sign of things to come.

Wakey have taken some big scalps at the start of the past few seasons but always fell away later in the season.

Afraid Toome that Wakey wont be challenging the elite this season, we might pull off a shock or two but the squad is very young, inexperienced and shallow.

Cas look a better bet as do Crusaders, really hope Quins make big strides but don't know much about them yet.

From what I could tell in my drunken stupor Warrington seemed to just smash Saints out of it. Also found Eastmond funny when he went a bit mad about handling errors, should be a laugh seeing him in RU. :pac:

    Also, gwan the Quins! :D

Yeah, he's either got his head at Bath, carrying an injury or suffering a catastrophic loss of form. There's no doubt he's a shadow of the player he was 12 months ago...he seems really reluctant to attack the line and isn't playing up as flat as he used to.....and some of those passes he was chucking about last night wouldn't look out of place on an RU field.

The Table as it stands today...just thought I'd pop that up for you doofer...enjoy!

    1 Harlequins
    2 Castleford
    3 Leeds
    4 Warrington
    5 Wigan
    6 St Helens
    7 Hull KR
    8 Huddersfield
    9 Hull FC
    10 Catalans Dragons
    11 Bradford
    12 Salford
    13 Crusaders
    14 Wakefield

Crusaders - Bulls was very disappointing and a poor advertisement for game.

The attendance was only 2,615! The ground looked deserted. Is this the image of the game the RFL want to portray?

I worry that the Crusaders are going to be running into more financial problems, a few more performances like that is certainly not going to bring the fans in.

Totally agree, awful game, empty barn of a stadium..terrible advertisement. I recorded it and watched most on fast forward this morning. I really dont know how much longer the RFL can continue to flog a dead horse in Wales. Having said that the bulls were brutal and seem to be all set to continue their downward slide despite the efforts of Potter. Also as an aside Silverwood's reffing was appaling as well. All round the game hardly covered itself in glory here.

I watched the game in ff too; probably brought them up to normal speed. At this time of the year the RFL/Sky need to be careful with their tv game selection - the weather make the game slightly slower to picking two teams which are not going to be towards the top of the table (both of whom are still gelling really) isn't going to provide a spectacle.

    Really enjoyed the WCC though

+1, great game, the best RL has to offer. Watched a lot of rugby of both codes this weekend (3 games each) and the WCC was by some margin the best of the lot.

So twitter folk say that, surprise surprise, Eastmond has moved to Bath, it was going to happen, why on earth he let it drag on this long I don't know.

Good luck to him, he'll need it...thought he'd come to his senses, but tbh he's been so woeful of late I doubt Saints will feel his loss on anything like the level they would have, say a year ago....

Finally it's been signed off and made official. About time!

I'd imagine Saints are working hard on both accelerating the deal so he goes asap and also finding a replacement. There are plenty of capable young stand-offs at the club who could step (wheeler, lomax, gaskill) but their long term futures are at 6 or 1 and may be kept away from 7. They'll have a lot of money in their cap now though so maybe a big-name Aussie?!

Virtually inevitable alas, and the funny thing is when England lose to the Aussies in the 4 nations, they'll all scratch their heads and moan about being unable to beat them...it ain't rocket science, if you load your top club teams up with key decision makers from Oz don't be surprised if your homegrown players can't hack it internationally.

Big winning margin for Leeds at home to Salford, Warrington go top of the league with an away win against Wakefield and the mighty Harlequins win against Saints for the first time in 10 attempts, the brilliant start goes on, and Rob Powell was named Coach of the Month. :D

Kyle Eastmond could do with just clearing off to Union now, hes taking the p*ss. He has now been suspended by Saints for serious misconduct.

    From the Daily Fail:

St Helens have suspended Bath-bound half-back Kyle Eastmond pending an investigation into alleged serious misconduct.

Saints have not divulged the nature of the incident but it seems certain to hasten his departure from the Super League club.

The revelation comes just two weeks after the 21-year-old confirmed his intention to switch codes at the season, when his current contract expires.

Eastmond has signed a three-year deal with Bath from November but may now be freed to join up with the Premiership club early.

A statement said: 'St Helens RFC have announced that Kyle Eastmond has been suspended pending an investigation into serious misconduct.

'No further comment will be made until completion of the investigation.'

The Oldham-born Eastmond, who joined St Helens as a youngster, burst on to the scene in spectacular fashion in 2009, playing a key role in St Helens' march to the Grand Final and impressing for England in their Four Nations campaign.

That form prompted Saints to allow the long-serving Sean Long and rival scrum-half Matty Smith to leave the club and hand Eastmond the number seven jersey for 2010.

However, he suffered an injury-disrupted season last year and missed the Four Nations Series as well as October's Grand Final with ankle problems that required surgery.

Eastmond made a quicker-than-expected recovery and has played in all five of his club's Super League matches so far this season but his form has been poor.

The writing was on the wall when he was forced to apologise to the club's fans for snubbing them at the end of Saints' home defeat by Warrington last month.

St Helens coach Royce Simmons will have to find a new scrum-half for Saturday's trip to Leeds, with Gary Wheeler expected to get the nod.

Wakefield considering groundshare with Castleford according to Sky Sports News. ?Newmarket. Presume its between the two and not the one in the Eastern Counties!

You have to laugh:rolleyes: Both sides currently have obsolete grounds, both have plans and aspirations for a new ground but the big but is that neither stadium is likely to be finished before 2013! So what is there to share:confused:

This all stems from a somewhat ambigious statement from the new Wakey owner Andrew Glover, that more or less stated that every possible option was still open as to where the club is going to play if they get another franchise.

Castleford have issued a statement, they are to carry on with their Glasshoughton stadium, as J32 stadium "will bring real, tangible benefits for the Club, the community and the wider Wakefield District."

What a massive win for St. Helens. Badly needed and need to back it up now next week.

What a try by Foster at the end as well....serious skill

  • Registered Users Posts: 526 ✭✭✭WakeyTyke

Leeds have a worrying look of a team that has run out of the passion and desire to go that extra, painful yard. Senior, Sinfield, Jones-Buchanan, Webb (to name but a few) are a pale shadow of their championship winning standard.

Certainly not an inspiring start to McDermott's Headingley tenure.

You got the beating that we were expecting last week:confused:

One thing about being bottom of the league is that teams think they only have to play in second gear to beat you and sometimes is backfires on them:p

Quins, however, clearly got a turbo-charged Wires outfit today:eek:

Trying not to think about it too much!!!

Totally shocked, not the defeat because we were playing one of the best teams in SL, but the total hammering. Conceded as many points in that game as the previous five put together.

What I can make out, lot of silly pens, schoolboy errors, Fantastic Wire performance, yellow card where they scored 3 trys (doesn't explain the other 11 !!). Worst of all though, lot of people say Quins gave up, which, even with our dire end of last season, they were never accused of that. I think the real test for Powell now is how they perform against Hull next game.

    Onward and upward :o

Some interesting rumours doing the rounds that Long may possibly head back to Saints to replace Eastmond for the rest of the season. Apparently he's also going to Saints next year in a coaching role

Another bad result for Quins today, after opening up a big lead after half time they end up losing by 10, serious wobbles. Just over 3,000 there today.

Yeah, not a lot of love between the two codes, no hate or anything, just apathy (talking about Quins). It would do the team a favour to ditch Quins eventually to end up in a more accessible part of London that would make it easier to just go on the "spur of the moment". But having the reassurrance of the stoop in their franchise bid will probably keep them there for a while anyway.

Gareth Thomas has tweeted he got a improved reception at Castleford this year, thank goodness. Would think he must be coming toward end of his career ?maybe this is his last season, and it will be good if his impression of RL when he finishes is a positive one.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

Weird that Wigan have lost 8 out of last 13 at home. Catalans have just started to get into gear now and Steve Menzies seems to be starting to produce for the dragons what he has for last couple of seasons in SL. I think hes about 50 now isn't he?
