Blind purchase of Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Malt , heard some great reviews on it so hoping for a good winter fragrance.
Also got a bottle of Tom ford Nor Extreme - it has an amazing fragrance, turned a few heads and lasts ages.

Some frangances I've purchased lately include ...
Aventus creed / green Irish tweed
    Xerjoff Nio
    Roja enigma
    Parfum de marly herrod
Parfum de marly Layton .... A lot depends on your own taste .
Some frangances don't suit some skins .
They may not last long on some skins .
I prefer the fresher smelling frangances .
Best advise is to buy smell sample sizes until you find a scent that suits you .
I've heard some good comments on a " frangrace house " called Nishane .
    It's a Turkish brand .

I have Pure Malt and really like it although I prefer Pure Havane. Both great winter fragrances though and quite distinctive.

I’ve been meaning to try and get into a store to sample Noir Extreme. One I’ve had an eye on for a while but would like to try first.

I currently have the following in my bathroom :

    Dior Sauvage
    Dior Fahrenheit
    Boss Bottled
    Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male

I must be using Fahrenheit over 20 years now. Love it, was one of the first fragrances I purchased and always have a bottle on the go. Smell lingers on me all day. My nephew's have referred to it as an old man's smell

I've very recently become a fan of Tom Ford's Black Orchid.

    Quite niche, but lovely IMO.

I don’t like Dior Farenheit. Everyone has their preference but it’s one I really dislike

I’ve tried this before but ultimately it’s a female fragrance for me, although marketed as unisex.

From the same house, Ombré Leather is really doing it for me. Sampled it a couple of times and didn’t get on with it at all but something kept drawing me back. Sampled it one more time and decided to buy a bottle.

That third sample After wearing it all day was just like a lightbulb moment. Went from not caring for the fragrance to loving it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,300 ✭✭✭✭razorblunt

Ombre Leather is amazing. Though I think it needs to suit your skin for it to really kick in. It’s funny you should say it took 3 attempts, I was the same, first attempt was that “it smelled like a leather bag”, second wasn’t bad and third attempt was pre flight And when I knew I could smell it hours later I was sold.

Funnily men seem to know what it is when they smell it, women ask.
Blue Chanel is still #1 for women commenting on it and instantly knowing what it is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,701 ✭✭✭bogmanfan

Another vote for Ombre Leather here. Just smells amazing.

I got to sample Beau de Jour yesterday. It's weird, because after a nice opening it dried down to smell (to me) like toilet duck. Really nasty! I had to scrub it off my hand when I got home. Weird thing is the wife loved it. I had to warn her not to buy me a bottle.

    Alright lads

Just wondered has anyone on here tried both:

L'aventure by Al Haramain & Armaf Club De Nuit intense

Would love to hear which one you preferred and why

    Cheers guys

I had L'aventure but sold it. It was near identical to Aventus imo but the longevity wasn't great. For the price, the quality was outstanding.

If your looking for a cheap Aventus clone, the CDNI is your man! Projects well and lasts a fair while also..

CDN is unreal, serious staying power, smells great

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,575 ✭✭✭Padraig Mor

Mont Blanc Explorer is another very good Aventus alternative, not sure how it stacks up pricewise against CDNI etc though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 811 ✭✭✭Rock Paper Scissors

Thanks for the the replies lads.

    Went with CDNI from perfume-click.ie

Was the cheapest i could find online

Just got my CDNI delivered lads.

Holy moly it smells absolutely amazing

Just got a bottle of Bleecker Street by Bond no.9. Got a great deal on MaxAroma last week, so came in under €100. Absolutely beautiful scent, but poor performer. Bit surprised as any reviews I read online suggested it's a beast, but on first impressions this is a skin scent. But it really does smell amazing

Bleu De Chanel is nice, but the best by far and prob the best I have had in a long time is Tom Ford Beau De Jour

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

Got a bottle of Amouage Reflection Man last week.
Firstly the box and bottle are a thing of beauty.

It’s a smokey incense type fragrance with loads of notes and changes over time. An unusual top note of Oregano and some leather in the base, it smells a bit like the inside of a church.

I’ve smelled nothing like it before. I really like it. Huge projection on it. I’d say it’s a love it or hate it fragrance as it’s unusual and it doesn’t hold back!

I used to really like Eau Sauvage but the last few times I've doused myself in airports with it I thought it was missing something and not the same as what I used to buy 20 years ago. Further back I used to like Cacherel pour Homme, it's quite distinctive and always got a comment, though someone once asked me if I was wearing women's perfume as they thought it smelt " very feminine".

Five months later and I’ve noticed my error. My description doesn’t describe Reflection Man at all. That’s because it’s Interlude Man I have!

Must give that a try. I have Intoxicated, which also has the coffee note. It smells incredible, but performance is poor - around 4 hours I'd say. How does Black Phantom last for you?

The complete opposite. I got a 7.5ml of Intoxicated “free” with Black Phantom.
Black Phantom has great performance compared to it and is a much nicer fragrance for my tastes at least. Rum, dark chocolate, sharp coffee and spices.

I quite like Intoxicated but I can’t really smell it on myself for long so wouldn’t buy a full bottle.

Kilian do a sample set of 5 fragrances for €25 delivered. Black Phantom is one of them. Think they are 1.5ml each. They also give you a €25 voucher along with it so if you are planning to defo get a bottle the sample set is free.

Or if you order any full bottle from Kilian they send a sample of it as well(along with another rather sample bottle and a 7.5ml random bottle too), the idea being you can try the scent before you open the full bottle box and if you don’t like it you can send it back for a full refund.

You may know all this already so apologies if you do.

Hope you get to sample Black Phantom. I was unsure of it first with its opening but once it settles down it is absolutely gorgeous with stellar performance and projection.

If you like Black Phantom I'd suggest Insomnia by Faviol Seferi which is essentially a clone and much cheaper (albeit still not 'cheap cheap').

I'm almost out of aftershave and I'm tempted to change my usual purchase. I've used Molton Brown's Oudh Accord and Gold for years, as my only aftershave, but I'm now having trouble getting it shipped to Ireland from the site I used to order it from. It's pricier on the main website, so I'm not keen on that.

What's a good replacement? I like oudh and would like to stick with that. Bergamot and cardamom are good too. Am open minded, except to anything that smells fruity-sweet.

    Any ideas?

I had a sample of some Tom Ford oudh cologne that was lying around here somewhere, but my memory is that it is very dear. I wouldn't want to spend much more than €100 for, say, 100ml
