Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    I'm thinking of investing in a watch and the Rolex Oyster Perpetual 34mm with a blue face seems to tick all the boxes.

    Does anyone know anything about this watch? Rough pricing etc.?

    Any information is appreciated.

    They are a lovely watch but i find the 34mm too small personally. I prefer the 36/39mm personally.

    It is on my list. I prefer the Milgauss dial but hate the polished centre links.

    Iconic watch and pure class. But "investing" in it wouldn't necessary be wise. You're very unlikely to make money on it. More likely to lose at least a thousand the moment you buy it (new). Also as 893bet said, it is very small for a man's watch

    Tell us more what you want in a watch and there are a lot of people in this forum who will give you great advice!

    It's a big classifieds site; so treat it like you would buying an expensive item from adverts/eBay/donedeal etc. Take the "trusted seller" badges with a pinch of salt.

    34mm is definitely on the smaller size for a gent's watch these days, make sure you try one on.

    34 mm is "tiny" for today's tastes and that's speaking as a girly wristed chap with a six inch odd wrist size who can get away with that kinda size(depending on design). My humble? Go larger.

    I couldn't find anything bigger so I thought 34mm was the biggest. I want a steel watch with a blue face and that pretty much ticks every box. I'd buy one second hand either.

    @unkel Good or bad investment I'd still be investing!

    Take a look at this Omega, beautiful watch, nice features.
    I'm in the market for a new watch also and was looking at either something like the Omega or the Rolex you had linked.
    Agree with the other posters, 34 is way to small for a man's watch, you should lookk @ 39 and up.

    Op get yourself into keanes in Limerick and try some one. The 34 is small but wears a little bigger than it suggests but still to small for my liking.

    Try on some in keanes. Take photos with them on and make careful note of each watch ref number as you will get confused otherwise. Having the ref means you can compare prices easily with other dealers or second hand sources.

    I have a link ordered in keanes for my omega rail master and can't wait till it gets in just for an excuse to try on a couple while I am there!

    Keanes or Matthew Stephens (practically next door) should have Omega.
    I tried that particular watch on in MS a few weeks ago, it may still be in stock.
    I've bought 2 watches from the guys in Keanes over the last ten years, SUPERB aftercare service with them. Do your homework on prices and HAGGLE! You should be looking at getting somewhere between 12 and 15% discount for cash.

    Keanes are the only dealer of Rolex in the region. Between their three shops they will have access to most models quickly.

    That is not a rare one so I would be surprised if they didn't have it in stock. To have a Rolex dealership I understand you are required to hold stock worth 1million so that's a lot of watches.


    Keanes also are an official omega dealer and have extensive stock.

    I thought they mostly did fashion brands like armanii, guess, michael kor etc.

    Looked at their website and they dont even mention omega!!

    Will swing in for a look to see what they have though!

    What did you buy from Keanes and what % discount from RRP did you secure?

    I think the model you are after starts around 5500. Typical discount of 5-10% depending on the dealer.

    But the previous "skyfall" one (ref 231.10.39.21.03.001) makes my knees go weak. I was getting one this xmas but a railmaster came up that I couldnt resist! Love the rail but may well flip it as the skyfall itch is very very strong.

    What did you buy from Keanes and what % discount from RRP did you secure?

    I bought a Tag Carrera twin time 8 years ago with 10% discount.
    Bought a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust II a few years ago and managed to get 15% off the rrp..
    Both have black faces so blue would make a welcome change!

    Off topic but is the Railmaster made anymore or has it been discontinued. I like some Seamasters but prefer railmaster.

    Discontinued since 2010 I think. I guess it didn't sell well enough. Also it's so simple a watch it is tough to justify all the price increases and direction omega is going the last few years.

    Op I was in keanes earlier and I think the window price for the watch you want is 5600.

    They have a few preowned Rolex. A explorer 2 for 2900! Very tempting. Bracelet looked like there was a little stretch on it though from the window.

    Yeah probably came down to pure numbers but no harm with a bit of variation for them I'd have thought. You have the Skyfall stuff etc, and I would like a Seamaster some day, but to look at to the untrained eye a lot of Seamaster/Speedmasters are a bit samey...

    If you liked the blue faced Omega posted earlier, have a look at this which is similar but without the GMT complication which IMO clutters the dial. It's generally referred to as the Skyfall Omega as it is the one worn by Bond in the Macao casino scene.

    That's not the bond sky fall. That's the updated version.

    The updated one has polished centre links, no border window around the date and has magnetic protection and is a couple of hundred dearer. The ruined it with those minor changes IMO.

    Size is fine yes it is small but that's its beauty. I bought a 2002 air king 14010 m for 1550 stg on ebay uk with box receipt papers and receipt for service from week before I bought it for 350. All checked as genuine and mint as new condition. Anyone paying 5 or 6 is mad. Lovely watch but...

    Is there anywhere a fella could do a bit of research/study into what to look out for in second hand models? I'd been looking at the sh's in Keanes window but wouldn't have noticed any imperfections. I think secondhand is going to be the way for me as I'm a bit novice to buy one new that I may or may not have the love for as some posters here seem to have.

    Look for a 'full set'. Boxes, papers, they add value and make it easier to resell if you decide to later.

    Isn't it part of the 'patina'. I have a Kermit flat 4. From reading some reputable forums there's a school of thought to leave it alone. What do the collective think?.

    Personally I'm a believer in treating a tool watch as just that.
    The wear and patina are where the character is developed for me.

    A dress watch of course would be a bit different, but unless I was selling or there was particular marking or discolouration a cape cod cloth would probably be as far as I go.

    Yeah, that’s another side of it. I’m used to people with vintage cars calling rust and damage “patina” so that word doesn’t resonate with me, lol.
