Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,
What's the best price atm for the Firestick?
    4k HD is £29.99 on Amazon.co.uk & £39.99 for the standard.
Is is worth the extra for the 4k HD & is that dependent on your tv?
    Thanks,
    Pa.

Yes 4K one is worth the extra even if you don't have a 4K tv. It is faster, smoother & will be supported longer than the older non 4K

Sorry, that should have been £49.99 for the HD version.
Does this price drop often or are there any discount codes or elsewhere that I can buy it from cheaper please?

In the last month it has dropped twice. The second time there was an extra discount that gave another £5 off also.

Firestick is stuck on firetv logo.
Anyone any ideas how to fix it?
Unplugged it, tried a different power lead, tried it without the hdmi extension.

    Other common solutions:
    • Temporarily disconnect the Fire TV device from the power cord or adapter.
    • Use the power cord or adapter included with your device to plug the Fire TV device. This ensures Fire TV has access to enough power.
    • Let the device sit for 25 min (turned on) or until the screen changes.
    • If possible try with and without an HDMI adapter or extender.
    • Make sure that you're using a high-speed HDMI cable.
    • Try using a different HDMI port.
    • For HDMI hubs, try plugging the Fire TV device directly into the TV.
    • Confirm that your TV is HDCP-compliant. Review the video-cable section of the TV owner's manual.
    • If possible try using a different TV.
If the issue persists, reset your Fire TV device to factory settings.
For more help, try our Amazon Fire TV forum.

Reset Fire TV Device to Factory Settings

A factory reset of your device removes all downloaded content including in-app purchases.
Important: All account information and downloaded content is deleted during a factory reset.

To factory reset your Fire TV device using your remote:

If needed, safely eject expandable storage.
Press and hold Back and right side of the navigation circle together for 10 seconds.
On the TV screen, choose to continue or cancel the factory reset. If you don't choose, the device resets automatically after several more seconds.

Make sure it's not using the tv usb for power

Not a bargain in my opinion. You would have got the 4K version for less.

That would have been the 4K version. He wanted it quickly & \Amazon are full price right now 49.99 Sterling plus 4 euro parcel motel. He got it same day from Currys & saved money. I've gotten firesticks for 25 or 30 but you have to buy at the right time.

    Mine did that too.

As long as it's less than 12 months old, get onto Amazon customer care via chat, and they'll send out a replacement.

Curry's are closed now afaik, so you'll have to get it delivered from them too.

Plugging into the mains for power looks to have fixed it

He didn't save money, but I take your point regarding speed and buying at the right time.

I thought it was the older version so not too bad at all.

It is not stated to be the 4K version. My understanding is that the 4 K version was/is not available to purchase here. If it was 4K then well in good but I would be doubtful as the Currys site appears to show the older version.

    Regular older version 49 euro

4k version curry's Ireland 59 euro & could have been picked up that day
4k version amazon UK 49 sterling plus 4 euro parcel motel with a 3 to 5 day wait.

I got mine yesterday and within 30 minutes have all the content from all those flix type services and pretty much live tv from many countries across the world. Slick enough interface, fast and great wifi connection so far.

There is no comparison. FS much faster, more reliable and easier to use.

I've nvidia shield and firestick. Seriously, the stick is a superb piece of kit and holds it own very well against the shield for what the vast majority of whatvfolk would use it for. Just so slick and the remote is a joy to use. One of the best sub €50 pieces of kit you can get. Android boxes, while once were the be all and end all not too long ago, simply don't cut it anymore.

You need to get Amazon to switch your account to a UK one for it to work. It's ridiculous but it's what you have to do.

Only for UK content. For Irish prime video there is no need to contact Amazon

Doesn't seem to be the case. My father has Amazon prime Irish account and can't watch anything on the Firestick. I have a UK one and it works no problem.

He can watch on Xbox, TV, phone etc.. just not Firestick.

You don't need to call to do it either, can be done on live chat with Amazon.

You definitely can watch Irish content on the firestick without contacting amazon. You can't rent or buy extra content on an Irish account because this is UK only content.

Amazon prime app is pre loaded on the stick. You literally just sign in to view your Irish content. The only time I ever had to contact amazon was when I decided to change from Irish content to UK content. Up until that point I viewed the Irish content on the firestick

Ok, so you can sign in using the specific app on the Firestick? I assume the problem is so you can't watch the programs that are on the homescreen/suggested because stuff that is available in Ireland isn't working from there either. I'll get him to log in through the app itself.

To be honest it's probably still better to switch to a UK account anyway for access to more stuff.

Better content but well all need VPN or get the boot from UK content when they leave the EU at the end of the year. They will no longer be following the EU directive then

I have a fire tv for years and could never get prime content to work natively on it.
But if you have an android tablet or amazon tablet it can seamlessly cast the content to the fire stick or TV. ( in reality I don't think its actually casting its actually getting the stick or TV to play the content).

Works really well and the tablet screen will give you info on scenes, actors on screen etc.

You need to change your address to a UK address. You will need a bank like Revelut if you want to rent movies

I have the fire stick and amazon prime and had to get onto Amazon web chat to allow me to access prime video content on it when used in Ireland.

try on web-chat help and just straight out ask them to change the setting that will make it work for you. try again later to get a different person if they won't help you.

he (amazon web chat person) also said that if I access prime video on another non-amazon device e.g. a laptop that it (setting change) would have to be done again as that would reset the change that he made.

this issue stems from the fact that these fire stick / tv products from the UK site are not sold for shipping to Ireland ( only if you use a redirect service like parcel motel etc ) and the amazon prime content is not configured to work on them when in use in Ireland

being honest the prime video content is not that all that great really.

the fire stick itself can be useful for other services.

if your fire tv stick is allowing you to access any prime video content it will be on the uk content.

Can anyone recommend apps for the Fire Stick? I have Netflix, and youtube, but agree with a poster there that said Amazon Prime video is not great, so don't have that one. Are there any other ones that are worth getting? Thanks.

Disney plus. Apple TV plus. Either one or these is worth a month's subscription. Apple 4.99 disney 6.99 I think. I pay for the month & cancel the subscription on one then move onto another streaming app the next month. Apple is probably worth it one month every six months. Disney is the same for adults but well worth the year subscription if you have kids

The Lifetime VPN thread gives you a good VPN which starts automatically on the firestick. Transforms your netflix. Also you can change it to UK so bbc player, ITV Hub and C5 catchup work.
Also you can use rte player along with mouse toggle.
