Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Bathroom extractor fan fitting

    Moved into our house last year. Soon realised the main bathroom was suffering damp and mold. So we will obviously need to put in a extractor fan. Problem is.. who do I call? An electrician? Another problem is that the attic above it is converted with a wooden floor laid. Is this going to cause masssive issues? Is there alternatives? How much will it cost? Advice please

    I had one fitted last year - got an electrician to do it.

    (it didn't solve the problem)

    alternative to venting through the attic, is to put it in the wall or window. If that's not possible then you're probably looking at a bigger job involving putting ducting between the floors.

    Fitting the fan is easy enough, as are the electricals to a degree (you'd probably need something on a timer, (which runs the fan for X period, say 20 mins) after the light in the bathroom has been turned off).

    The main problem is ducting. You could locate the fan such that the duct comes up behind or close to the "walls"of your converted attic (presumably you have some vertical slabs connecting sloped ceiling to floor. The ducts can be run out a soffit (if you have one) or out through a special roof tile. Which adds to the work and distances it from the work an electrician would do.

    Difficult. A builder (who can do it all) won't want to know). An electrician will only go so far (and isn't really necessary given the work is simple) Perhaps a decent handyman?
