Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Oil Boiler Replacement Size advice

We're replacing a very outdated oil boiler in our house. We've received 2 different kinds of advice from different plumbers, so a little confused.

It's a semi-detached house with 5 bedrooms and 11 Radiators. The boiler also heats the hot water taps. We currently have a Firebird 90/120, so was going to go with the same size. However, plumber said modern condensing boilers are better off being smaller and working hard than buying a bigger boiler with slack.

First plumber recommended the 90/120 size set to lowest setting in case we ever add an extension. Second one said even with extension with 1-2 rads isn't worth the 90,000BTUs, so we should go with the 50/90.

    Any opinions on this?

The other thing that was mentioned was the regulation of distance from flue output to the oil tank, which is quite close at the moment. Would a longer out pipe resolve this issue rather than having to move out the tank really far? Since condensing boiler output doesn't get hot, we thought it shouldn't have to be same distance presumably...

went for the smaller boiler with first plumber, he agreed with the size since we're not really planning on expanding the house. He did a great job on it, very neat.

Look at a air source heat pump and PV panals set. You won't go back
