Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

C64 repair service

    Hi all,

    Can anyone recommend a repair service for a breadbin c64? I thought it was the power supply but bought another one and obviously wasn’t. I have no knowledge on these machines so don’t want to try myself.

    Dublin would be good but anywhere in Ireland if they accept postal service is good.

    To be honest , half the fun of owning older machines is the hours spent with youtube open on your laptop and a multimeter in your lap.
    I dont know of anywhere in Ireland that would look at one of these - certainly not a commercial venture.

    Would you not have a crack at it yourself ?

    I probably will if i can't. I'm happy with a console, but i have a spare room full of them.

    But you're right, it's the same principle, mainly just soldering, I shouldn't fear.

    What does the screen display look like when powered on?

    If it's competely black, it's most likely the PLA chip which is a known weak point.

    Out of memory errors or screen corruption is most likely RAM.

    There's a guy in Wales who specialises in repairs such as these - google 'Mutant Caterpillar Games'.

    There's a fuse inside the unit itself, check to see if this has blown or not. It's a 1.5A fast blow type:

    Just to bring a happy end to this story. Did intend to try to fix this myself but the very nice cathaldublin stepped in and did it for my. Now I can play my beloved dizzy games :)

    We don’t know, but in the process of trying to fix it, it became fixed. Possibly just the cleaning of it did the trick.

    Possibly dirty contacts on the rocker switch, before I even tested it myself I couldn’t find my PSU brick so I took it apart to check the fuse, switch and voltage reg, I ended up cleaning the board/switch, keyboard connector and a few days later when I found my PSU I plugged it in to do some testing and to my suprise it was working perfect
