Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Update; the SNES mini modding tools are amazingly simple to use.

I even got it to run Fan-translated games (e.g. Front Mission) without problem.

What display setting does everyone play this on? I think I've fairly settled on the pixel-perfect setting (8:7) as it's the sharpest and less "stretchy-looking" of the three. It was while I was playing Super Metroid where I started to really see the difference as one of the orbs (can't remember the name of them) looked very oval in 4:3.
    XkYWW56m.jpg?2
Since I also heard that this was the intended aspect ratio the developers were making their games on, it just felt right.

I would've also liked to have used the CRT mode regardless of it being 4:3 because I just love the scanline effect in general but the scanlines on the SNES Mini, I believe, are nasty lookin'. They seemed to add a heavy amount of smoothing to accompany it and it just looked odd.

But the orb on the right there is more oval... ?

It's not, that's a perfect circle on the right

It's really weird, I had a look at this yesterday and the right one looked like an oval and I was wondering wtf you were on about. :pac:

This morning the left one now looks like an oval and the right one looks like a circle.

Right looks like a perfect circle to myself. Playing it on pixel perfect too.

Really enjoying it too, only waiting to get stuck into Earthbound for the first time ever now

    Hmmm

    All this Snes Mini business...

Taking ownership of maintaining the light of 16 bit gaming from us here without a by or leave!

Suddenly everyone is into Super Nintendo games, as if they are discovering the Americas for the first time, despite the fact there's been people living there all along!

What do you mean? Who are you targeting?

What do you mean? Who are you targeting?

    Targeting?

    Ah now, only a laugh.

It's great to see so many people playing Snes games for the first time in 20 years or, in some cases, for the first time ever.

But people here have been flying the Super Nintendo flag during the dark times, when the Nintendo and retro gaming areas were niche and the focus was all on whatever Sony, MS and Steam were doing next.

It's refreshing tbh, as long as it's not simply a novelty, which would be a pity.

Classic games of any period are still worth playing, not as a red tinted nostalgia experience but for the games themselves as offering good value and good times to those playing them still.

Sorry haha i couldnt find another word for "targeting" lol sounded worse than intended.

I was a Sega lad as a child and I never really got my chance to own a nintendo platform properly until i left school and had my own money.
I experienced a lot of Snes games via emulators but it just doesnt feel right that way.

I got a S. Famicom as well for the novelty of owning a Japanese system but I couldnt touch an RPG on it.

So yeah this is the best, quickest and cheapest its gonna get for me to experience these games in an authentic manner.

Im a retro junkie anyway ^_^

Finally got my SNES mini today,

I missed out on a lot, Played Star Fox for the 1st time and failed miserably lol , but in saying that I love how it plays and really want to put more time into it , Briefly dipped into Mario World and Donkey Kong , they never age either great games,

and man Contra 3 is HAAAARD as is hSuper Ghosts and Goblins(to be expected) but man games really were made of sterner stuff back then

Gonna wait till Sunday when I have a proper day off to start Zelda and Metroid :)

I'd recommend not playing Zelda ALTTP and Super Metroid at the same time. They're both so good that they're the kind of game you should get stuck into one and play it through, start to finish.

Once one is done, be happy in the knowledge that you still have the other one to get through :)

I’ve been following various websites every day and checking a few times a day. They never show in stock.
Are they only instore and not showing online?
Are they available forclick and collect or to buy instore only?
It’s driving me mad cause I keep hear of people getting them but I can’t seem to see any in stock when I check every few hours. Am I just unlucky?
Smyths say to check the website as all stock will show there.
But then when I was in smyths in jervis during the week the guy told me when it was released they couldn’t get rid of them instore. They had loads. He said they weren’t showing online it was for walk ins only. Like how are people meant to know they are instock when online shows them out of stock?
How am I meant to get one ? 😩😩😩

Try calling into a few, Swords and Tallaght seem to get stock regularly but doesn’t appear on the website, keep an eye on the SNES mini thread in the Nintendo forum too

Mine is reserved in GameStop, but I might have to wait until the turn of the new year until I get it. It'll be a nice opportunity to play the games that I never got a chance to play when I was younger, namely Donkey Kong Country, Super Castlevania IV, Super Metroid and F-Zero.

I never got to own a NES Mini, and I don't plan on getting one anytime soon, especially with the typically astronomical prices of nigh-on €200.

They come in and out of stock in Smyths every now and then. Not in big numbers and in store only.

Same with Amazon, a few here and there. It's worth checking the various European Amazon stores (.es, .de etc). Amazon.it have had them constantly for over a week - they must have tonnes - and only €80, but unfortunately don't ship here. Maybe you know someone there who could score you one and send it.

If you want one and are willing to check regularly you'll get one eventually. I don't think there's ever going to be a massive restock but they'll come on sale in dribs and drabs for a few more months.

Thanks I'll try a few Smyths stores, I asked them on Twitter and they don't reckon they'll be getting anymore. I'll go around a few and hopefully one of them will have it

They're making enough this time that most people who want one will get one, you just have to keep an eye out and check fairly regularly. A lot of people have gotten them just by wandering into Smyths and getting lucky.

There's a UK stock checker here:
    https://www.stockinformer.co.uk/checker-super-nintendo-entertainment-system-snes

Now some of these places will ship to Ireland; some won't. You'd be as well to figure out in advance who does and doesn't and get accounts set up beforehand so you can speed through the checkout process. I know Game certainly had some a few hours ago.

I guess I'm waiting 'til new year as GameStop hadn't shipped as many SNES Minis as they thought they would. I'm still more looking forward to the Switch anyways, which I'll have at Christmas Day.

Have one of these picked up for xmas. Do you need to buy an ac adapter for it to work? Anyone know best place to pick one up that's suitable if so?

Just picked one up from Amazon UK, their units will ship from the 27th of January.

73 Euro total, with free shipping from Amazon UK.

    There's a code BIGTHANKS

That will knock off £10 Sterling, 'free shipping' knocks off another £4 Sterling.

Paying in Euro gets you a total to pay of 73 Euro.

    Code courtesy of hotukdeals.com

The code goes 'live' tomorrow, but works today, as I found out, after using it.

Any good guides for modding these to put more SNES games, and a Mega Drive emulator?
