Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Facebook Ads and Likes

Is advertising on Facebook now just a con job or does it actually work?

I limit my use of Facebook, so many of the ads that I see on my feed are of little to no relevance and look like scams.

I know of a local business that advertise heavily on Facebook, it is their only form of advertising. You can tell which posts they boost by the number of likes the post gets. They have around 7000 Page Likes. How much of that converts into real business though? I know of other businesses who advertised on Facebook only to cease once they realised that they weren't getting a return and most people just wanted free/cheap ****.

There are Irish businesses on Facebook who have gone chasing legitimate Page Likes, to the point where they would have considerably more Likes than much larger businesses in England. They get very few Likes on their posts though unless they boost them or give stuff away for free.

Facebook's algorithms track your online activity both on and off Facebook. They use these to tailor advertising to you based on this activity so you'll see things you are more likely to buy. I'm a scientist and I see ads for reagents for example. All of this information is collated and sold to advertisers wholesale.

I remember when people were paranoid about losing their privacy. Now they can't unload it fast enough.
