Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Christmas gift for staff

Not sure what forum would suit this but just checking what people are doing for staff this year generally in the absence of get togethers and Christmas parties? I would normally give a gift or buy a couple of drinks.

It would be a shame not to do something to mark all the hard work done this year in particular but it’s a tricky one with most working remotely and no formal get togethers. Any suggestions?

You can get drinks kits sent out to each staff member.

My sister's company has done this a good few times since March

The easiest thing this year is a supermarket voucher. At least everyone can get some use from that and supermarkets aren't at risk of closing down.

Quarantini box. Then you have something to do for the mandatory zoom party.

Yes, all ideas must be drink related.

The words Zoom Party shall be stricken from the record after this year, anyone mentioning them from here out shall be killed.

well my boss is sending us a hamper of food, a hamper of alcohol, €500 perx reward card, voucher for a restaurant and because i've been a very good boy this year, she's promised me a bj.

so that's the kind of standard you have to meet for your staff.

One 4 all aren’t good, they deduct money each month from the value of the voucher . Avoid !

And how does it get into the envelope? Unless you’re a cash business it’s on the books somewhere

One4all Gift Cards can be spent free of charges for 12 months following the purchase date (i.e. when the card was bought from a Post Office or online).

After this time a monthly charge of €1.45 will be deducted from funds remaining on the card, until the card balance reaches zero.

one for all cards can't be used online for purchases greater than €50 in any one transaction. Although, they can be added to apple/android wallets afaik.

perxreward cards are far more flexible and are effectively the same as a debit/credit card.

Give them money - all staff appreciate money, that's why they're your staff.

They won't give money. Think vouchers can be deducted from taxes or something

Cold hard cash is taxed, vouchers are not. Unfortunate, but that's the way it is.

Got a One4All voucher from our Sports and Social committee, because obviously nothing was organised all year. Hard to find online stores that will take them, max online spend is €50 because of anti-money laundering laws, and you can't combine it with your own money to put it towards something big because most online stores are only set up for a single payment method per transaction. Plus One4All seem to be having technical difficulties at the moment and aren't sending out the texts that validate the digital vouchers, so you can't actually claim them (this is our experience yesterday and today anyway).

If you can spend it in a physical shop, it's grand. Not a huge amount of choice local to me, though.

Management in our place has decided to reward our hard work all year by scrapping our Christmas bonus :)

    There are rules,

    Small Benefit Exemption
You can give employees a small benefit of up to €500 in value, tax free, each year. This benefit must not be in cash.

    Note :
The value of the benefit of a meal voucher is the face value minus 19c.

    19c

The commission on a One4All transaction is 20%. I don't why anywhere accepts them.

If you know them well, a hamper of food tapered to their tastes. eg chocolates, biscuits, wines, spirits plus a few hundred cash. Can’t go wrong.

Oh no way! We are getting one of those from work. Guess I just have to spend it straight away, which is a pity because I don't actually need anything at the moment and was going to save it for when I do. Thanks for the heads up!

Fee only kicks in after 12 months, its quite common with shopping centre ones too. Spend it in first year and fees are zero - simple.

Don't give them an Amazon.co.uk voucher anyway. Lots of people are doing that because you can print them in nice designs etc. But come January 1st between sterling falling, tariffs, delivery charges and other taxes they will be worth about 50% of what you think they are.

According to this article from 2016, the commission charged to retailers is “about 8%”.

avoid one4all, online limit of €50 which is laughable, cant be used on paypal or amazon and forces you go to shops while pandemic, then if not used within one year balance being charged €1.45 per month.
seriously, its the worst rubbish I've ever got as a form of 'appreciation' , its just pure pain in ***e

Or just use them quickly for groceries in Tesco, Dunnes or M&S...use the money you would have spent on those things for whatever gift you want to buy yourself.

    Job done.

Company gave us all pre-paid debit cards, and mine has already come in very handy via PayPal e.g. I have used it to pay for new glasses, guitar parts, and a few iPad apps so far. Much appreciated. They did it early because most people are working from home.

Lucky you. We get nothing. But we know favoured staff get quiet bonuses. It's the worst time of the year for morale in a company like this.
