PP isn't that stupid. You must have read that wrong? Someone could put on a tenner and come out with €5 million? Anyway he wouldn't pay out €5 million, there are bound to be low limits how much a bookie will pay out.

PP’s maximum liability on any bet is €1 million

Bit mad giving odds of 500,000 / 1 then.

Would be terrible PR for them if they didn't pay out what someone won.

Surely wouldn't take much coding to not allow a bet to be placed which they would have to limit the pay out of?

The person who would put the tenner on would be the stupid one.
I'd be happier putting a hundred 10c bets for a chance of 50k.
Alternatively put €1 on one number @8/1 and get 10*10c goes at the big one for free.

Anyone do this online instead of the shop?

    PP are doing it again.
500000/1 for five numbers as opposed to €19430 with the National Lottery tonight.
And you can bet 10c with PP and still end up with 50k if your luck comes in.
Your odds of getting 5 numbers in Euromillions is 3,107,515/1 so for the bookies to only offer 500,000/1 is a rip off. They're only offering a 6th of the actual odds.

The actual lottery allocates a certain percentage of the prizepool for 5 numbers and then that's divided by the amount of winners. You are not betting on 5 numbers, it's a consolation prize.

I do it online and pay with Revolut.

Never pay for gambling with your normal bank account. It has a very negative effect on your credit rating.

Really ? does that include money to paddypower bwin etc ?
    Even if you win ??

Even if you have it under control, I occasioanally bet, in fact I am ahead overall, I usually bet on Rafa Nadal winning French and thats money in the bank basically, but that could have a negative effect on credit rating ?

Is it even their business ??

That make no sense a bank will see you use Revolut and request statements showing you’re gambling transactions.

It is, broker told me to close paddy power account when i was looking for a mortgage, i'm not even a gambler - would have been talking maybe 50 quid every month or two max.

I think they only look back 6 months at stuff like that though.

    Holy ****!

Lucky I got my mortgage 2 years ago, the fact that I gamble 1/2 a year could have helped, maybe blind luck - although I'm sure I put 2 bets in 2018 at least.

I can't believe it's that black and white though- it has to be treated as an expense, and if you are averaging 50E a year im sure it goes under the radar ... i mean wtf>?

    yeah matters a lot
for mortgage purposes gambling is the worst sin. other vices can take time for you to end up in the ****ter - for example there is only so much booze or drugs you can take but gambling your could lose everything in minutes.

Probably largely there to be used as a convenient excuse to pick and choose where wanted. I'd say if you're a civil servant on 150k they wouldn't give a toss if you're blowing a grand a month!

It comes down to how regularly you gamble, and how much. It's not a simple yes/no - it's down to if the bank assesses it to be "habitual" or not.

Lad I work with was recently turned down for a mortgage because of it.

He's been saving regular sums every month, earns just over €70k per year, but puts between €50-150 to Paddy Power every month.

Was told to go away for 3 months and come back without having a cent gone to any gambling sites

Not for the amount I'm transferring, petty cash, kids pocket money, etc. Wouldn't raise an eyebrow.

Personally I very rarely top up from bank anyway, it's usually nixers, cash jobs, etc.

You are correct. The odds a almost impossible.

But people are renting a dream.....much the same as spending the few quid on an escape which is a film or pornography. It's an escape for a few euros.

I think I know more people who have been murdered (1) than have won the lottery (0).

If you are spending money on porn you’re doing it wrong

€200 million would ruin your life. You would end up spending most of it on personal security.
If I won the €500k plus draw I’d be happy. That would allow me buy my own house in cash and possibly have some change left over

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,968 ✭✭✭blindside88

For anyone worried about their Revolut you can delete any transactions you like from your statements before printing them.

Anyone that thinks €200 million will ruin their life, I’ll happily take any excess from you until you get down to a point where you feel the funds will not ruin your life :)

PP's big brass wouldn't get out of bed for 150K. Euromillions jackpot starts at 17 million and can go as high as 200 million. PP is one million, and they never increase it even if it went months without being won. It's no wonder they can afford to pay themselves multiples of what the Taoiseach is on.

Euromillions jackpot starts at 17 million and can go as high as 200 million.
Once the €200m is won the cap goes to €210m, then €220m. This carries on until it reaches €250m which will be the final cap.

An insane amount of money to hand over to one person.

A bank is going to look even less favourably on a statement which is missing transactions than seeing payments to Paddy Power.

That's a crazy sum of money. Never played the lotto but I might put a couple of grand on it this Friday.

The bank is not going to know that it’s missing transactions unless it’s a huge amount of money. If it’s the odd €50 they’re not going to go through all the transactions to find a discrepancy. Either way we’ve pulled the thread off topic a bit so I’ll leave it there
