Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Since Nintendo are releasing Starfox 2 on the SNES Mini, this is regarded as the official release of the game.

As such, do you think there is a possibility of this game making a physical release for the actual SNES itself - cartridge an' all?

The repros were the unfinished version of the game if I recall, this version will be the first time the finished article hits the wild. When the Snes Mini has its contents dumped, expect to see this pop up as a new version repro. Can't see Ninty making it as a physical cart with a manual & box etc.

As an aside, who's to say a real Snes could even play the rom...it might not be able to ;)

Yeah repro's are the 70-80% complete version that was stolen from E3. Fan Hackers have fixed it up but the SNES mini one is the first time the complete version is released. I can see the rom being hacked out of the mini and reproduction guys making copies out of SNES Doom carts.

Official? Not a chance in hell, why would Nintendo release a game for an ancient console?

Unofficial? Most definitely yes! :) As Retr0 said, someone will hack that mini console as soon as it comes out and dump the rom. You'll see repros on ebay in no time at all.

I reckon if they did release an official version, it would sell pretty well. I think they should just do a whole load of new batches of snes games that have gone through the roof price wise.
Imagine being able to buy a brand new copy of earthbound and being the first person to sniff the smells in the manual.
You could play the game too, if you wanted.

As Nintendo are releasing the Snes Mini with the games loaded on board, that is their contribution to the fans of the classic games, there is nothing to be gained by them in releasing carts for a system that is out of production for so long, in which they have no more investment, aside from the IP and goodwill, which they are capitalising just fine, with the aforementioned Snes Mini.

Kimishima mentioned in the investor Q&A a few days ago that one avenue of 'virtual console' they were exploring was releasing games on a cart or digital for the Switch, a collection of SNES games on a cart etc. Starfox 2 may turn up on one of them again if they use that route.
