    Hi all,

I couldn't find any previous posts on this topic.

I'm looking for a bit of advice. My wife recently renewed her interest in stargazing & bought a decent pair of celestial bino's. She also bought a tripod for a certain US multinational e-commerce company (no prizes for guessing who) that are complete pants. Can anyone recommend a decent tripod that won't cost an arm and a leg and can possibly be bought from a local supplier.

    Thanks in advance
    Phil...

What brand did she buy and what exactly is wrong with it? Local stores selling tripods will principally be camera shops and their prices are sky high compared to online.

And why the (not so) cryptic reference to Amazon the mail order company? It's hardly their fault that she purchased an inferior product.

Usually you will find that quality will cost more. Manfrotto are a good brand, and are available locally. Go into a good camera shop and see and try what they have. Bring the binoculars with you. In Dublin you have Conns Cameras, Birmingham Cameras, one on Wexford street, who's name escapes me at the moment.
