Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I dropped them a line there, they might get a kick out of seeing an old product.

Actually have a tub of the stuff I got last month, same brand.

I just really hate throwing stuff out if it's still good and there was some back and forth over it between herself and myself earlier ;)

What the hell is up with Canyon sizing? I was asked by a family member to look at a bike for them and they ask for height and inside leg measurements and then tell you that you are some kind of freak and their bikes won't fit you :D
Your body height/inseam length ratio is outside the normal range – check your measurements are accurate and entered properly into the form.
When measuring your inseam, you should pull up the spirit level or book into your crotch with the same amount of pressure as if you were sitting on the saddle.

I recall sizing one for myself a year or so ago with their older more inquisitive sizing tool and calling bs when they wanted to put me on a n xs 48cm frame. I ride a 52 Felt which if I'm honest I'd have been happier on a 54 at 5'7''

i'm about the same height and the eddy merckx sizer put me at a XS. i have an S - about a 52 or 53.
i think what it was was that my inside leg measurement is about an inch longer than normal for my height (32") and it panicked.

didnt buy in the end as they havent had the colour I wanted in stock since january.

I used this to compare to my current bike

and bought a cannondale in the end

I took in a foster dog while I'm working from home. Out this morning and kicking a tennis ball for him in the local green, I kicked it from the tarmac and upended myself. My feckin arse and elbow took the brunt.

Wow, I was waiting for tumbleweed, or kangaroos. Or something. (I used to hang out in O'Donoghue's). Nice work, stay safe.

Me too many moons ago. As far as I know the videographer lives in Christchurch and is working in Donnybrook so has taken to walking to work, as well as a few shots when out for a walk with his kid. I think it is nice, hope he continues shooting until the end of this so we can see how things go as time progresses

Nice bit of work that. Anyone know the practicalities around shooting such drone footage in urban areas? Some of the camera work over the Liffey area is very impressive.

I know someone who operates one occasionally as part of their work and I recall him mentioning having to notify the IAA every time he puts a drone up for his work around the city. He's registered and licensed etc. I think there are different rules depending on the drone size, where you are flying, structures and the number of people in the vicinity of the drone.

Here's a different take on using a drone for filming a biker.
Greg Callaghan, Irish Enduro rider is the biker.

Doing races and other events with my son in our driveway, with increasingly confusing and convulted systems to keep it interesting. So far we have had answering maths questions mid race, dropping the bike and completing different tasks eg star jumps, push ups, spinning in circles, drawing pictures. The newest race form he has come up with is some sort of dressage, where you are voted on how cool you look while on the bike or scooter, I have so far lost all of these races.

Intrestingly, I also found that if my son uses a shortcut or 'hack' as he likes to call it, that is 'playing the game' but if I do it, it is cheating. I pointed this out to him to which he shrugged his shoulders and said, "I don't make the rules, that is just the way it is". I then pointed out that he clearly makes the rules. He then pointed out that I was just upset about losing, and that was understandable, but I might have a chance if I stopped cheating, as that wasn't fair.:mad::pac:

Then you just threaten to stop playing, gotta mirror their irrationality until they see the error of their ways.

Totally serious. Best way to stop a child having a freakout is the lie down on the ground and have your own. I like to connect it to the Lacanian Mirror Stage, but I'm probably way off.

Maybe not the best way, a way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,746 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

I'll admit it, I had to Google that. But yeah, spot on.

Anyone having issues with the Garmin Connect app today (on iOS)? I just get a black screen when I open it and it's not syncing with my 520, even though the bluetooth is connected. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but no joy.

I kinda got the impression that the post was more of a light-hearted take on life in lockdown with kids, rather than a father's despair at his offspring's inability to apply consistent rules to a made-up game

    But that's just me

Cram's original, yeah, I read it that way too. My "advice" was serious, but also half in jest. I've been a single parent for nearly 13 years, so my take may not always match that of others.

I had a very puzzling encounter with a very young Garda at a checkpoint in Donabate tonight while cycling home from work.

The conversation went something like this:

Garda: "Howaya. Out for a spin?"
    Me: "Heading home from work".
Garda: "OK so - stay within the 2k now"
Me: "Well I have to go to Skerries" (about 15k from the checkpoint)
Garda: "Fair enough so - just keep it local"

WTF? I don't think he has grasped the concept of cycling commuting.

I was chatting to a Guard in Supervalu, he seemed dead on his feet tbh. It's been a long few weeks

or else he's not from the area and assumed that people don't cycle more than a couple of km to get to work (and i know that sounds flippant, but has a reasonable chance of being true).

That sounds like a Garda who's operating on auto-pilot after a long few weeks. I'd suggest giving him a hug, but obviously that's an option.

Couldn't think of where else in this forum to put this nice piece of new research. Cycle lanes are economically benificial...

Was there similar a few years ago about bike lanes in london having a massive return on investment? Would be nice if they linked to the data or paper, found it here: https://www.portlandoregon.gov/bps/article/636667 haven't read it though. Its a large PDF for anyone on their phone

Another free month from Eurosport. They really must be struggling for rights or cost to reshow stuff. Not all bad though as they are showing the 2017 Giro next week but they are still only showing 2019/20 classics and some older track stuff.

Great to hear. Although I'd be disappointed if research part funded by anyone called "PeopleForBikes" couldn't make a positive case for bike lanes :)

One of the coaches in the gym has suggested we do something at 6am every morning for 20 minutes, light exercise or whatever.

I'm going to cycle but I'm leaving the garmin at home and not fall into being a slave to strava.

Ordered strings for the guitars in the attic a few weeks ago. They have been there since we moved in 6 years ago and pre first child. Used to play a lot as a teen in bands with friends and later just learning songs to play along to. Would have considered myself a very good bass player in my day too.

Herself has a decent voice and can play too, I haven't a note in my head but sure when it's just yee and the kids that doesn't matter. What an evening we had, the girls lost their collective **** when they found out mam and dad could play guitars :pac:

My finger tips are ripped to pieces now though.

I can't wait for the barbers to reopen. My hair is gone ridiculous. It's curling up around the outside of my helmet now.

On the other hand, my mother loves it and says it's the way it should be - just like the way she had it on me in the 1970's. (She hates short/tight haircuts).

I go though phases of going to the barber for a proper haircut or just getting a #2 all over at home. Haven't been to the barber since before this and I'm growing the beard back so I reckon the #2 is the way to go for me.

while bored out of my tree I was looking up blade sizes and growth. You grow approx 1 blade a week. So if anybody is going to try out a closer cut then if you do a #1 in 2 weeks it will be about a #3. The tighter you go the easier it is to shave, down to a #1 anyway, If you use no guard then if you are not evenly shaving it then it shows up more.

Each blade is 1/8" longer than the last. Some lad in the bargain alerts wrongly read his blades and thought he was giving himself a #6 all over, when it was really a #2 which has 6mm written on it!

A #2 is a good length, if you get a #1 you get comments, but everybody gets used to it quickly, including yourself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,474 ✭✭✭Ryath

My mum's the same if she comments my hair is looking nice it's well overdue a cut!

I was lucky and got it cut days before this started and had it cut a bit shorter than usual. I'll still be taking out the clippers soon enough, might try and tidy it up but more than likely I'll go for the easy option of a blade 2 all over!

Every day's a schoolday! I normally get a scissors cut so I'm not that familiar with blades but I presumed a no. 4 was 4mm. no. 3 was 3mm etc.
