Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Blizzard would be mad not the have this as F2P. They could just copy League of Legends model and make truckloads of cash.

I'd like to see how much TF2 has made over the years.
It's been F2P and never went down the PayToWin route, and all DLC or extra content was free to all (Maps etc).
Even the weapons and skins you could buy are possible to get via drops (Except those from other game promotions)

Hopefully Overwatch goes down this route, and takes it's lessons from TF2...which by gameplay and characters it looks like it has.

I've watched a number of videos on it now and it looks great fun.
Really want to try it out as the beta looks very polished too.

No more invites until after Blizzcon anyway.

For anyone else who didn't have a clue

Except that is Battleborn and not Overwatch.

Also that guy is suspiciously overbearing in his praise of the game.

Collectors edition up on amazon for $130. So it doesn't look like its free to play.

Well Heroes of the storm also come in editions to be bought but that does not make the game any less free to play...

    Thankfully it doesn't look F2P

Update 3:02 PM EST: Overwatch launches Spring 2016.
Update 3:01 PM EST: Pre-purchasing gives a Widowmaker skin.
Update 3:00 PM EST: The collector's edition comes with the soundtrack, art book, and Solider 76 statue.
Update 2:59 PM EST: Overwatch is coming to console and PC at the same time.
Update 2:55 PM EST: Overwatch will include all 21 heroes, maps, content, and features when you buy it. The Origins version will include 5 skins, along with some content for other Blizzard games.

€59.99 for the digital origins edition. Seems a bit on the pricey side to be honest. Thought it would aim for the 30 quid mark or there abouts.

The standard edition is only €40. If you don't want the other stuff (the skins will be separate at some point, and the stuff for other games is only relevant if you're invested in other Blizzard games) there's no reason to buy the Origins edition.

I'll be getting the Origins bundle anyway, if only for Tracer in Heroes and the Hearthstone card back.

Picked up standard edition because 20 EUR for a Hearthstone card back (only other in game item I'd see regularly) is not worth the money.

No Mac client, interesting. Usually Blizzard are quite good for launching their games with OSX support.

To tell the truth was quite surprised with the price for that game that is quite high even for standard edition! Will be waiting for Cyber Monday to order this one.

Not really. Blizzard expansions now are going for the price of a normal game.

Most blizzard titles now go for the €40-50 mark. And I'm totally fine with that. The quality and longevity speaks for itselves. And very few companies can stand near them when it comes to after launch support.

You'll pay €40 for Overwatch, and that helps to pay for a dedicated post go live team who will deal with issues, balancing etc.

I bought SC2 on release and while I didn't buy the expansions, I got a good year out of SC2, and was ridicuclous value for money. As is pretty much any WoW expansion I buy.

I've pre-ordered the new WoW expansion legion which is coming in at the €40-50 mark, and will probably also grab Overwatch as from watching a few favourites streamers play it, looks incredibly promising and enjoyable.

Was watching some streams of this last night. It looks rather fun, but I know it's just going to be awful to play "public" cause the teamwork is vital.

Definitely on my "interested" list having seen it in action. It's got a fun style and aesthetic whilst being a pretty action packed kinda game.

Yep looking forward to this. Tf2 is one of my most played and favourite games of all time but it's high time for something new in that genre.

Is there a way to preload the BETA ?

Every report I've read says they are very quite different games. BattleBorn being a lot more MOBA based.
    Just similar art styles.
They say Overwatch and Paladins is much more alike than BattleBorn.
I've not tried BB yet so can't comment (missed the open beta).
Paladins - I wasn't very sold on. I messing about with it on the weekend.
Hoping I enjoy this beta for OW. If I do, I'l buy it.

Amazon germany still has beta codes, don't think the UK does anymore and didn't try anywhere else. PSN should also be an option but might be safer to use amazon.de

    code get's sent almost instantly.

Played 2 matched on PS4 with Reaper and Lucio.

I have to say I had a load of fun in both matches. I'll need to play a lot more to check on balancing etc but I was generally impressed.

It looks very nice on console and ran smoothly, I didn't notice any drop.

Reaper is great. Just constantly going in with two shotguns. I can see it taking a while to get to grips with all the characters but I knew him (and probably Genji) would be my favourites.

I just picked Lucio as it tells you when your team doesn't have certain character builds and we didn't have support. He did take a while to get used to, I didn't even realise I could kill people with him till late on.

Hopefully I'll get a few games in before work in the morning too.

Haven't Apple been pretty bad with GPU drivers (and using underpowered GPUs) lately?

TBH I can't stand their design direction for the past few years, the machines are completely consumer-unfriendly.

Preordered on PC and got my early access keys few days ago, played a bit lastnight and this evening, game is awesome.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,803 ✭✭✭Benzino

Thanks to OSiriS I was able to get in early. Really enjoying it so far, it's just a bunch of fun, the variety in characters is excellent, really looking forward to playing more now.

Anyone got a spare xbox code? :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,905 ✭✭✭Noxin

Got in early thanks to OSiriS myself :D

Day1 thought, I'm kinda meh which in turn has me very disappointed. I was really looking forward to it.
Maybe I just haven't played it enough or am completely $hite?
Truth be told, I'm having a bad fps day in general so that might be hurting it. Terrible in CSGO. Not great in BF4 either.
This I started out well. Plenty of kill streaks and the first 6 games were all wins. Got a few level ups and some crate. All good. Nice to see some progression etc..
I feel there is some balance issues to work out.
Everywhere I look the top killer is Bastion?? (not sure if right name, robot dude who turns into a standing turret)
Fukcer is camping in every corner.
I played Winston a bit and couldn't get my head around him at all. His gun is muck. Extremely close range floppy dick lightning sprayer that seems to do sweet fook all. Usually by the time I got close, I was getting wrecked.
The sniper gal I enjoyed somewhat. Although like I said - bad fps day so my aim was pretty off.
There was some character there that I couldnt figure out how to attack with. Ít didn't seem to have one. Was using some sort of a gravity gun that said hold to charge which did nothing at all. Ran into enemies full on allahu snackbar to die asap with that one.
Another chick I did well with was able to buff others with a shield, buff herself with a shield and had some weak attacks. Still enjoyed her.
The engineer dude who plants a turret is op as fook. I placed that thing down and just watched the kills rack up.

Again, like I said. Bad fps day in general. I'll be testing plenty more every day over this beta. I've not given up hope yet. :P

I like that the game ends, showing some of the top players in the match. Whether it be heals, kills or whatever. Helps get rid of the whole K/D ratio that everyone who plays online seems to care about.

I'm not sure what the likes do after (and I don't like that you can like yourself) but it's a cool way of appreciating good play.

Sadly this is still all people seem to care about. So many times people are standing off the objective trying to get kills instead of escorting.

Worst thing about this sort of game is playing with pugs. Feel like banging my head against a wall after the last three games :P

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,160 ✭✭✭tok9

I think it helps though but ya you'll still have the few who'll just play for that.

Glad I could help out :)

I highlighted 2 perception issues here. The reality is that both classes are relatively weak and difficult to perform well with for good players. The problem is that for newcomers they are easy to play and easy to rack up kills with as they are difficult to deal with for newer opponents. I can assure you that there are plenty of counters out there, and once you start to learn them, it gets ALOT easier :)

Things like sheltering behind a Reinhardt shield while you take them out, flanking them, jumping Winston in on top of them. Ducking in and out from behind walls while taking pot shots with a high damage character like Pharrah or Hanzo all make short work of them. It helps to have someone tanky distract a Bastion while you take it out. with Torbjorn, you generally want to find and kill the turret at level 1 when it is squishier.

If you have trouble getting to grips with the shooter aspect of the game, don't overlook the support classes. there are some that don't require high accuracy like Lucio, Mercy and Symmetra, but are very powerful and very beneficial to your team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,911 ✭✭✭SeantheMan

Also...just to jump on the praise bandwagon...OSiris generously sorted me out without me even asking.
Very much appreciated. True gent ! Thanks :)

(But why didn't you give it to me weeks ago...damn you !! :P )

The thing some people appear to miss is that every hero has (at least) one counter hero; taking Bastion as an example he's easily taken out with either sniper class or if you go tank to pull him with the chain (forces him back to normal status). That's the whole point of the game; that you change hero as needed to deal with what the enemy team has (and then they change so you change to counter their change etc.).

Early access only started yesterday, so you just missed a few hours. ;-) They didn't work for closed beta. I had 3 codes so popped into this thread and gave them to the first 3 people who expressed interest in the game since the early access started.

Heroes are very well balanced,it was one of the main focuses during closed beta and they have done a wonderful job.
People new to the game just have not worked out how to play yet therefore some heroes might look OP but they are not and as mentioned above swapping heroes constantly is the key.
