Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wood tiles mismatch

Got bathroom renovated this week. Some of wood effect floor tiles are different shade . Builder arguing that this natural variation and that wood effects are meant be like this. We think it looks ridiculous.

    Any photos?

They could be different batches of tiles.

But tbh if your doing wood effect different batches make it look more realistic.

    Photos needed.

Ok. They look like entirely different tiles. Like different wood effect.

It would have been smarter if they were spread out mixed amongst the others but it looks crap as is.

I can see how youd be unhappy. They should have asked first. I wouldn't be happy with that job.

Thanks, just wanted second opinion. Going to totally retile on top of them, as can't live with that. Aftr all the money spent on this, am disgusted . Anyone with common sense would have copped that looks all wrong. Seems like tradesmens just know how to do the physical/technical part and give no thought to aesthetics.

No way would I be happy with those tiles, they’re a totally different colour.
I wouldn't re-tile over the entire floor, the tiler can easily lift those three tiles and replace them with matching ones.
I assume you havent paid him his final payment yet until all snags are completed???

No haven't paid yet. It's a bathroom renovations place. The tiles are uneven too or not level on floor-partner scraped his toe against corner of one this morning. So we have to retile over the lot I think.

I'd be pretty surprised if they were even in the same pack. Chances are he didn't bring enough of one with him and used what was in the van.

Why would you tile over them?? Just get them done right

If they're replacing floor tiles, chances are they'll break wall tiles too . The bathroom refurb crowds tiler is obviously pretty crap so don't want to let him try and fix it. Prefer to get a tiler I know who does a good job

I got my bathrooms renovated in June, so i know how expensive a job it is. Not a hope I would fork out to get someone else to tile over them. I’d be beating a door down to the original guys to get them to sort it. Any decent tiler would be able to lift the floor tiles without cracking the wall ones. Maybe when they have to foot the repair bill themselves they’ll do a better job.
When you pay so much money to them the very least you can expect is matching tiles and a level floor!!

    No way is that acceptable.

I'm thinking of refurbing ensuite and hope it's not same crowd I'm looking at.

I'd not pay to fix either, get onto MD of bathroom refurb place.

Sorry for your trouble by the way. I've done a mini refurb on my home over the last year. Nothing worse or more stressfull than looking forward to something you think will enhance the area, only for it to turn out bad.

What kind of eejit would think a customer would accept that.

If you are in Cork, it wont be the same!

Dont accept that ridiculous looking finish.

If worst comes to worst, tell them you will post photis and your review on Social Media.

    Hope you get sorted.

Thanks. Got second opinion yesterday from a professional and after all that, the whole floor needs to be lifted as the company never put down plywood on the floorboards so the tiles are lifting a bit already. And only get worse in time. Am going to get a plain white tile next, less chance of mismatch . They were truly a shower of cowboys. Haven't paid them balance yet so will be holding off until all sorted. Worried about the quality of the electrics and plumbing now if the tiling was so shoddy.

They put tiles directly onto the floorboards? Cowboys. Are you sure the plumbing is done correctly?

Pretty shocking that a company specialising in bathroom renovations thought that was a good job. Your leveling issues aside those dark tiles are clearly not the same as the light ones. Complete cowboys, stand your ground and demand it is done right.

I'd be very wary of these all in one outfits

    Better to pay separate
