Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Strimmers

Hi lads, looking for a new strimmers for around the farm. What would you recommend.

I had a "cow horn" type hand previously and it was brilliant for open areas but for the small trickier bits a small bit awkward but had to say you could work for the day and not notice the weight.

Was looking at a stihl 460 which is very pricey at 8-900 but it looks a beast. Would this be Overkill? I previously had a 40cc which was fine for grass etc but you could feel it dying when getting into heavier stuff under fences etc. Would probably burn 4-5 gallon in the year so not massive usage

    Any opinions or recommendations

What strimmer would be strong enough for thistles/nettles?

    I bought this

    https://patfogartylawnmowers.stihl-dealer.ie/en-ie/product/1cd9fa0b-9a6c-4e32-8ff3-cf5acfdae7df/fs-70-c-e/

I’ve the 4 cornered blade on it. It’ll cut furze about an inch thick but I’ve a saw head for larger stuff. Good investment

Would that cut through thick grass as well?

    Fly through it.

    Hard to beat efco strimmers.

That what I had and it would be hard to fault it alright but was told they are not as reliable any more by the salesman who stocks them so hard to know. Would save a couple of hundred on these over the stihl but unsure how to proceed

I have and efco about 2 years old, no problem with it and powerful. My dad would say the same about his tanaka.

The stihl is very pricey for what it is.

I own Husky 545 RXT autotune, best brushcutter i’ve ever had .
Probably the same power as Stihl 460 , but definitely better harness ( Balance XT).
Got it for about €770 delivered from Honeybros.com
It is made for life , 2.2kW makes some difference too.
Goes through furze, small trees like knife through the butter ( no need for circular blade , just a regular 3 tooth blade for a trees up to 2-3 inches in diameter)

Contractors around recommended Tanaka so that's what I bought. Bought the second biggest salesman had. With the square string it will clean under electric fence no problem. Briars, long grass, Nettles, even soft whins are no match for it. I think they were also sold as Mitsubishi.
