Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Landlords Registration

    Just a quick few questions.

    Is it law that a landlord renting his/her premises be registered ?

    If you do a search in the landlords registration website and the address does not show, should one presume then that it is not registered ?

    If not registered, should it be reported in order to protect the tenant and what penalties are imposed to the landlord if any?

    RTB register is woefully inaccurate so I would pay no heed to it.

    Almost every tenancy must be registered but there are exceptions. More info on the RTB website

    Even if they aren't registered the tenant has more rights than the landlord. There's a small penalty charge if they don't register.

    Even if they aren't registered the tenant has the same rights as one who is registered, so from the tenants POV being registered makes no difference.

    I've dealt with the rtb register as a part of my work in a previous job.
    It's a load of crap. It's wildly inaccurate.
    Loads of tenancies on it that haven't actually existed for years. And if course, a vast number are unregistered.

    It really is a hopeless case . I found it to be off no practical use and leads to hassle.

    Only residential lettings need to be registered with the RTB.

    Situations where the landlord has lodgers do not need to be registered. B&Bs, hotels, etc. need different registration.

    All property ownership is registered with the Property Registration Authority.

    For all the difference it makes, it really doesn't make a blind but if difference whether it's registered or not. Tenant has the same protections either way. You are certainly not disadvantaged by the teensy bit being registered.

    No landlord has to be registered. Some tenancies have to be registered.
