Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Thought this deserved its own thread

    Official Website: https://www.criterium-du-dauphine.fr/en/

Pretty much every big name in this one and a seriously loaded Ineos and Jumbo Visma teams so looks good. Stage 1 tomorrow and a 4th category hill finish so will be very interest to see the teams with multiple leaders deal with this one!

5 stages and no time trials. With everyone looking at the big teams my money is on Quintana doing well and maybe taking top spot.

I'd say Froome will be glad of no TT with what happened to him there last year. No time for the man but I'd feel for him coming back to a race where he go so badly hurt last year.

His form is so bad that unless he wheelies up the cat 4 climb and solo to victory is time at Sky is over.

I need to find the segment but I think he actually took a Strava KOM on Col de la Biche at the weekend.

I think he's nowhere near where he was a couple of years ago but it's too soon to completely write him off. He put in a fairly savage turn at the front for Bernal on one of the stages of the Route D'Occitaine last week, he definitely has something to offer

  • Registered Users Posts: 142 ✭✭Steve SilverMint

Not a fan either but feel Froome is only testing himself at the moment. He was dropped the last day out but only after putting in savage work for Bernal. I’d say he was fairly pleased with himself as he even posted the stage on Strava to show off his power output.

    4 riders have abandoned already

For me, it's his mentality that I'd question rather than his numbers. 2012 and 2018 showed, for me, he's at best a reluctant domestique. Numbers, helping Bernal etc all about getting to the start line, after that, all bets are off.

If Froome ever gets back to 100% he's arguably the strongest rider in the peleton. He could put minutes into Bernal on the TT. I doubt he will but it could be great entertainment

8 km to go. It should be an exciting finish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,457 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

    WvA wins.

    Not the most exciting finish.

Was Dan in the bunch? I thought I spotted him about half way down?

    looked 6th but they didn't show a top 10.

If it was him he looked to be in the wrong gear at the start of the sprint.

    edit:

no that was Lutsenko for Astana - Kazhak champs jersey is similar

    top 10

    Froome lost over 5mins

Nico finished 35th... I hadn't realised he was taking part. I suppose it makes sense since he is going to le Tour.

Coming up on the final climb 17.5km @ 6.2%. It contains a descent so the Avg uphill is probably in the 7%-8% range!

Yes! Proper skeletal. Didn't stop him being dropped though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,508 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

Froome moved up to 2nd in line, then went backwards when he was due to take over.

Ineos turning themselves inside out and the JV lads along for the ride looking relatively comfortable, Kuss especially.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,937 ✭✭✭De Bhál

Froome missing his turn messed up the ineos train there big time

Yeah but Sivakov wasn't looking great even before his turn was due.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,937 ✭✭✭De Bhál

    Some attack

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,508 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

    That was beautiful from Roglic

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,715 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

Wow he just sat in the saddle and destroyed the best climbers in the world.
    Some ride from Kuss too.

Some egg on Ineos faces there and Roglic disconcertingly comfortable looking pedalling away from everyone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,484 ✭✭✭Macy0161

We have seen Roglic peak too soon before for the Giro the other year. Ineos look too far the other way though!

It was gas when the 4 or 5 from Ineos were on the front working away and the faces to show it and Kuss and Roglic behind looking grand

weather seemed to get a tad "unpleasant" shortly after the finish

Great finish today although I do wonder how Bernal will handle not having team mates if Ineos can't support him as he didn't look comfortable by himself.

Hopefully a few races will begin within the race now that a number of big names are losing times, could make some of the breaks later in the race interesting!

De Gendt has to be eyeing a stage surely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,066 ✭✭✭✭neris

Quintana could be an interesting one for the tour. New team isn't working out to bad by the looks of it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 646 ✭✭✭Tony04

Anyone else think that buchmann is a real dark horse for the tour? 4th today, but for someone who's rarely spoken about hes really consistent...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,010 ✭✭✭velo.2010

Roglic has excellent hip flexor flexibiltity and core strength thanks to his days as a ski-jumper, which allow him to produce so much power in that low position. It's aero too! Wiggins could do similar but didn't have Roglic's explosiveness on the climbs.

Ineos may still be training mode, according to some, but Froome still has the look of someone that's far short of Tour form. It's a shame that his best days may be over because of a crash and not time or younger rivals catching up on him.

Buchmann and Martin were eyecatching and could be shrewd bets for the top 5 in Paris.

Was telling herself about the stage today, I was 'working' from home and watching with the girls and her memory sharp as ever reminded me of last year when Rowe and Martin had their handbags at the tour!!!!

    Totally forgot about that one.
