Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Come on Bennett. Would be epic to see him in yellow.

Who was the rider from B&B Hotels that was leading the peloton down the descent for the last while?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 410 ✭✭topnotch

Hmmmmmm, ran out of legs. Got squeezed a tiny bit at a key time, but no real excuses. Didn't have the endurance/speed.

I need to see it again but was he impeded by one of his own lads on the left?

Also Pinot ffs the man has zero luck at the tour :(

Bennett never seesm to have the best position in larger bunch gallops; he always has to work hard to get into position.

The French TV director needs a word in his ear if this is going to be the carry on with Pinot everyday.

He was impeded by a Trek (I think) rider about 300m out and never recovered from it.

Looked like he was afraid to do some bumping. Too easily pushed off his leadout guy. Then had to go around two.

Stage 4 in last years Vuelta, got in a very good position after a messy roundabout before the finishing straight no problem - he seems to do better working off other teams leadouts rather than a dedicated one?

I don't think Sam can have any excuses

Well he dodn't seem to be able to get into the right gear ..have a look

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,350 ✭✭✭Daroxtar

I didn't think much of that lead out at all, too far back for too long then thought he impeded Sam and caused him to bump off the Trek segafredo rider when he was about to launch.

I don't think Sam can have any excuses

yep, in the perfect position to win it and was slowing coming to the line compared to those on his right. Pity

I did wonder that as it looked like something was wrong

In the first crash he had the wheel changed and not a new bike, not sure about the puncture later on so possible there was something wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,044 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

He gives himself alot of work to do mostly because he seems unable to fight for positions. He kept dropping off the aerial shots at the end which is too far back for him

He seemed to be looking back towards his gears alright in the last 100m

He can when wants to, or when the other rider is sub 60kg...

As much as Carlton Kirby annoys me sometimes, he did manage to pick Kristoff for the stage win!

John Degenkolb finished outside the time limit so his race is over :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,451 ✭✭✭TheBlaaMan

Sam looked to just not have the legs, whether it was that he was stressed/nervous or whatever, he just looked ....blocked and sat down from sprinting with 50m left to go. Looking over at the opposition mid-sprint didn't seem to suggest he was at all confident in his own sprint. Perhaps he burned more matches than we might have expected coming back from the early spill and the later puncture, but as mentioned above, he has no complaints really.

He also picked Bennett and Cees Bol at various points in the commentary

Well since he didn't start I'm not surprised

What's the story with Sivakov? He'd be a big loss this early on for Ineos.

    I didn’t see today’s stage . Any injuries to main contenders ?

Just watching ITV4 highlights, they seem to be under the impression that Degenkolb finished outside time limit.

Was he down once or twice?

Looked like he had to be talked into continuing by team the car at least twice.

I wonder if he could suffer for a couple of days and stick with the sprinters pace to allow recovery then for the final 2 weeks to help Bernal.

Ha just watching the highlights on TG4 was expecting the Ozzy lads, but it's the Irish lads. When Sam crashed "Níl sé gortaithe, ach tá an rothar banjaxed" :D

EDIT: Another cracker "Tá an rothar marbh"

It's odd the roads look far worse than they did in HD on eurosport , in SD on TG4 you can clearly see how bad they were.

The breakaway is on Eurosport player and GCN pass but no Orla Chennaoui? Thought she did a decent job last year but seems to have been elbowed out by the GNC thing. She had some stuff up during lockdown including interviewing Wiggo about his career and the Olympics.

ITV as usual had decent highlights package, even from a tent in Kent.

EDIT: Oh there she is reading tweets in a different room ffs.

I think she could not travel due to being in a restricted country

Ah of course. Still though I'd have considered her as senior NCO there vs Dan Lloyd.

It was one of his leadouts caused it when he bumped into a rider who was right in front of Sam. God knows how he missed him when he went down
