Ancestry.Com to open office in Dublin

Saw an article about this in the Irish Independent newspaper today(7/7/12).

I tried to see if I could find it in the online version of the paper but I couldn't find it so I can't provide a link.

I went onto the Ancestry.com website and uploaded my CV as I would be very interested in working there.

Does anyone know anyone working for them already? I'd be interested in getting any tips to improve my chances.

Thanks for the heads up chughes.

They have a few jobs for Dublin on their website. I suppose in general they will be on the tech/IT/customer service side as opposed to genealogical research. Their in house research group, ProGenealogists, is based in Salt Lake City, Utah. I might be wrong though.

Seems to be some confusion about this story with Ancestry denying they are moving their 'world' headquarters to Dublin but will have an 'international" HQ.

I wonder how big the operation will be and does our fabled low corporate tax rate have anything to do with it.

They recently passed the 2 million subscribers mark and must have an income in the hundreds of millions of dollars per year.

Family history firm creates 35 jobs (Irish Times)

About 35 jobs are to be created as the world’s largest family history resource opens its international centre.

Ancestry.com is to run worldwide operations from Sir John Rogerson’s Quay in Dublin from September.

At present there are 15 staff in the city which will grow to more than 50 over two years.

Olivier van Calster, Ancestry.com’s vice president, said Dublin was a perfect fit for the expansion.

“Ireland was chosen for a number of reasons, not least because of the great availability of talented people, but also because it is a country that has a long history of emigration and plays a significant role in the family history of people across the globe,” he said.

Jobs Minister Richard Bruton added: “Ancestry.com is a very welcome addition to Ireland’s growing cluster of online companies.”

Ancestry.com is the world’s largest online family history resource, with more than two million paying subscribers.

It has added more than 10 billion records to the site over 15 years and users have created more than 34 million family trees.
