Testicular pain

Hoping someone can shed some light on this for me. So for about a month now I've been having a dull pain in my balls mainly the right ball.
I have been to a gp who said everything feels fine and sent me for a scan. I had the scan tonight in a clinic and the same again everything came back fine, but I still have the pain In the ball. Its like a pressure pain its constantly there and doesnt go away, I'm just wondering has anyone else had anything similar to this and what was it. When having sex sometimes the ball can disappear up into my stomach and I have to push it back down. Its a very annoying pain and its driving me crazy now as both the gp and ultrasound are fine.

I know, its known as testicular torsion, it's mostly common in 12 to 18 year olds, I'm 33 and the pain is meant to be much worse then the pain I'm having. My blood flow was grand so they said it wasn't that causing it.

Same thing happened to me about 20 years ago.In my case I was wearing tight Jean's and got over a wall and twisted a testicle which caused the same pain as you seem to have.
I had a few different examinations from doctors and they found nothing but after a month I was sent for an ultrasound scan like a pregnant woman.
Gel all over my balls and a great picture up on the screen and the female examiner found the problem.
I'm sure the equipment has vastly improved since then so not sure if that's the only thing that can find something like that now

Bashing the one that falls in front against a partner can cause it to be a bit sore. The disappearing up into your stomach thing isn't it just retracting for protection no? Maybe a cramp if it's doing that excessively? Odd that one ball would retract and not the other, probably a bit bruised? Might be worth having a look at your semen to see if there is blood in it. Can be caused by non serious trauma (presumably as well as more serious things)

It's about a month now it's been like this, it used to disappear in the past while having sex but I never had pain. I've checked for blood and noting so far. I was thinking myself it could be bruised from sex. If it is bruised would it be normal for it to hurt a month later?

Don't know. I suppose the pain from bruises usually fades gradually over time if there's no repeated trauma.

Trousers catching it repeatedly could do it too, even if the individual catches are too minor to notice, they might add up. Pay attention when doing things like driving to see if something is catching it a lot.

This is a problem I suffer from and for me it seems to be caused by a combination of Epididymitis (testicle inflammation) and a pain somewhere along the Vas Deferens. Loads online about it and an awful lot saying no real reason for the pain and no guaranteed cure.

After various treatments like antinflammatories and antibiotics, I read something somewhere that one of the treatments some specialists use is a very strong antibiotic for a minimum of two weeks. So on about the 5th time seeing the doctor about it I persuaded them to give that a try and it seems to have fixed it for me. I had the pain about 2 years until then.

I'm still on the waiting list for Waterford Hospital to see a Urinary specialist the waiting list is over 4 years and I've been waiting 2 so far. I don't have the really bad pain but I can "feel" that there is something not quite right on the left hand side of my groin in the area of the Vas Deferens so its worth getting it looked at.

The doctor manipulated my ball with her hands to twist it as far as I remember and tablets for the inflammation

Had the same. Was a dull constant ache. Ultrasound was clear , so antibiotics and got it sorted.

First few times with antibiotics it came back, but doctors were only prescribing antibiotics for 5 days. It took a 14 day course of antibiotics to finally shift it.

Had similar issue when i was 17 was a twisted nut and yes it kept going up and down into my stomach and got stuck had to have my bag sliced open and it was dragged out and stitched to the wall of the nutpurse for a while it was horrible and painful..

I think testicular pain is a lot more common than a lot of men are willing to admit.

Yeah its the subject of much joking but when it comes down to the nitty gritty of a genuine pain in the nuts we don't tell many people about it, think it was 6 months before I went to the doctors.

I'm not going to go looking up links again now but I seem to remember that with testicular torsion (where one bit is twisted internally) you should get it seen to within 24hours and preferably much much sooner.

Quite possibly. I know when I was younger I used to get a dull throbbing in the left testicle. It would last a while but wasn't permanent and was irregular. Eventually thought I should go and get it checked, went to the doc, he had a feel around but couldn't feel anything wrong. That was quite a few years ago and I haven't really had it since.

It was on and off for years (I was much younger and not as responsible as I should have been).

Surprisingly, testicular pain is still one of the least understood of the "basic" medical problems affecting men; I guess there's something to be said there about the lack of research investment.

I've personally dealt with a light "on again off again" discomfort in the right side of things for a few years; I've had a couple of more acute episodes which prompted me to see the doctor. Did the visit, had ultrasound scans done twice, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the...goods; No obvious inflammation, no cysts and no tumor whatsoever. The opinion of two different GPs and two different urologists across two different countries is that...some men simply have this issue and yes, it is more common than generally thought. A mild analgesic takes care of the annoyance when it appears.

My advice would however always be to get things checked out properly - it won't make the pain go away, but at least you'll know there isn't anything major happening there.

Personally, and I stress I am not a medical professional, I am starting to think my specific issue is connected with the fact one of my lumbar inter vertebral discs is damaged and I do occasionally get sciatica episodes - doc also says it might be possible, nerves are all connected in one very efficient system afterall. So yeah, the issue might be somewhere else than where the pain shows up

I think we all should move on from embarassment and pub humour.
Early detection of testicular cancer, bowel cancer etc results in prompt attention and high survival rates.

I'm dealing with a very painful bout at the moment.
Thrombosis Varicocele that has developed into contributing to renal vein drainage issues.

The pain if I am upright for anything more than 20minutes is excruciating.
The only thing offered to me so far by way of treatment is pain management.

To date that's a Gabapentine for Neuropathic pain, along with Oxycontin to control the bulk of the pain and Oxynorm for any breakthrough pain.

It's going to be September before I'm back in with the Urologist and the hope is that it might resolve itself in the interim as he is not confident an op will make any impact.

I'm on day one of my holidays with enough opiates to keep a homeless shelter happy

Little update, i finally found out that it's an infection. The first gp I went to did no tests just told me i have to go for an ultrasound which found noting, so I went back and she then sent a letter to the hospital for an appointment to see a urologist.
I was told it could be a year or more wait and I couldn't hack the pain so i went to a see a urologist privately.
He also gave me an ultrasound which was clear and said I had an infection of the testicles (epididymitis) and gave me a round of tablets.
He did no piss test or any test or asked any questions, just straight away told me I had an infection.
Noting had changed after them so I went back and he gave me another ultrasound and two more rounds of tablets to take and see if the pain went away and assured me the pain would go away, which It didn't.
So today I looked up another gp as the pain has been here since may.
I went to him to find out I had been prescribed pain killers by the urologist and no antibiotics. He did a piss test and said I had white blood cells in the urine meaning an infection, again he said epididymitis or could be prostatitis, both having similar symptoms to me.
He has put me on a month supply of antibiotics.
So finally the pain should go away it's been torture.

He gave me a hole month in one prescription, that's all I got from the urologist was 5 days at a time of the useless pain killers.

I have had bouts of testicle pain on and off for the last 15 years. Scans have showed up nothing.
One GP just said “unexplainable testicle pain is quiet common, testicles are quiet complicated”.
Eventually the pain goes away on its own. But in recent years a GP said it was inflammation and prescribed antibiotics which were very effective.

However the last course of antibiotics resulted in me getting penile thrush! A tight foreskin was a disaster.

That don't sound too good at all, I'm on a month supply of doxycycline, my pain has been constant since it started and the painkillers the urologist gave me had no effect at all.

As I said earlier I had strong (can't remember the name) antibiotics for two weeks and that seemed to cure it but it was at least another month before the pain was gone. The antibiotics weren't a quick fix by any means.

I also got painkillers or rather very strong anti inflammatory drugs a few times and they did nothing but give me really bad stomach pains.

Was back in with the Urologist team in UHL yesterday.

Its the 1st time in many years of dealing with the Irish Health Service across multiple specialties that has left me completely disheartened.

I've been suffering fairly extreme bouts of pain related to a thrombosed varicocele and associated renal colic.
I do have good days and bad days, but when I'm active every day is a bad day.

So in June after an admission, I was discharged with an "urgent" low dose CT scan booked.
3 months later, no scan still and the recent consultation was really a waste of my and the doctors time.
At a consultation in the Public system the doctor told me I could be waiting 18 months or more on a range of opiod and nueropathic meds before any surgical intervention is made.
He gave me contact details for a private colleague and recommended I go private.

I've got private health insurance luckily enough, but what is the point in allowing not just a 2 tier system to develop?
But to be actually fuelled by publically employed Drs.

I'm still waiting on a 4 year waiting list but thats not the main list thats the waiting list to get onto the paper list to see a consultant. Luckily fixed the worst of it with help from my Doctor and Mr Google :rolleyes:

Recently visited my GP due to a dull ache around my left abdomen and left testicle. It's been persistent for two weeks now and generally gets worse during the night with sharp pains in my left nut.

Currently waiting for a CT scan on my kidney and an Ultrasound on my testicle.

I'm hoping it's kidney stones but the more I read the more I worry about it being testicular torsion. GP had a look and didn't seem to think that was the case but the left testicle is definitely raised higher than the right (more than it used to).

Half expecting to need a visit to A&E one of these days :-(

If anyone has any any recommendations a PM would be much appreciated

My money is on nothing will show up and no one will be any the wiser after the tests. The Ultrasound might show up a few nodules or some such but seems to be quite normal and doesn't really account for the pain.

But just in case you do need to have the tests in case it is something serious that is diagnosable.

Main thing is not to worry about it. It really is much more common that you'd think.

I got to a stage where the pain was so bad that I had to get larger underpants because any pressure at all on my balls was bl00dy painful.

If you get prescribed antibiotics then get on to the doctor and make sure you get an extra long prescription for at least 2 weeks anything less had no effect on me.
