Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Allow referral codes in own sub forum?

    This has probably came up a million times before but what's the reasons for banning referrals?

    It's seems far more strict than other similar forums.

    It's to stop people simply coming on and spamming codes all over the site. Boards is a discussion site, not an internet noticeboard, and allowing unrestricted posting of referral codes would quickly remove the discussion element.

    What about a dedicated subforum of bargain alerts. And only permit them in that subforum.

    A request access forum for only long standing members with a good record in the forum and x number of posts/months would stop referral spammers and the users in that sub forum would trust each other

    Something like this would certainly be possible. It would be best to post in the Forum Requests forum to see if it can garner sufficient support to make it a runner. As Nosnon said, it may be required to implement an access request element to ensure that the forum isn't overrun by spammers.

    Thank you. Yes, it certainly would be a good idea to restrict access in some way whether it be a access request method or minimum post count.
