Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Electric scooters on phoenix park cycle path

Different laws apply to the Phoenix Park as opposed to normal cycle tracks, so the authorities can do as they please. Even on a normal cycle track, 'invalide carriages' are permitted.

But, the Segways (if these were used) are quite wide and speed limited, so they'd need to widen the paths to permit safe overtaking.

If they succeed in drastically reducing car use of the park, there would be plenty of space for everyone.

So people who are too lazy to walk or cycle are going to be allowed to put cyclists in danger. Brilliant, just brilliant. As if the moronic joggers on the cycle lanes with their back to you were'nt enough.

The OPW request for tenders refers specifically to Segway scooters, which are two-wheeled devices, with the user is in a standing position. It is unusual for a tender like this to be brand specific. I wonder what process they went through to choose Segway as the most appropriate solution.

To be honest, I wouldn't have a huge problem with Segways on cycle lanes. They have the speed to travel at similar speeds to many cyclists, so it is probably safer to have them on the cycle lane, rather than the path. Perhaps the OPW could be encouraged to use this opportunity to encourage pedestrians to keep out of the cycle lanes.

Interesting proposition as thing are now it seems like a highly dangereous prospect. Totally silent, stopping distance of 12ft, at 12m.pm.h. As one who uses the parks cycle track twice a day and rarely does'nt have to worry about pedrestrians walking in the same direction, better signage needs to be erected immediatly at both ends of each section of both cycle and walking paths. The OPW might be better consentrating on this. Regarding joggers again the OPW could do more to encourage joggers to use the miles of natural and reconised running tracks throughout the Phoenix park. A few hours mapping with any of the local athletic clubs would benifet both local and visiting tourists.

Down with this sort of thing!

ffs, segways are wide f**kers - I still reckon I could upset the gyroscope with a little shove though...
