May I invite those who are interested in German to lobby ntl through political reps (Europeans and presidency of Union coming up..) if necessary to make Deutsche Welle - German equivalent of French language world tv channel TV5 - available to all in the very basic (cheapest) cable package of channels... (one more to add to the paltry 14 max. in Dublin)

Ironically, Telewest in Britain provides D.W. in its very basic (essential) package whereas TV5 is in the second tier.

It will a be a long fight to persuade ntl but.....

Cable customers in Bruxelles all receive 39 channels (multi-lingual) for 123 euro per year. Ntl provides 14 channels- including four kids' channels for 204 euro per year all in English with the must carry TG4 that causes great angst for ntl who would gladly replace it if possible with another vulgar channel sourced from ntl hq in London.

Is the infrastructure in place for NTL to add additional channels to the package - obviosly they have access to them but is the bandwidth available. Just because the Belgians can do it and for less isn't really going to make much difference to the argument as with everything else inferior and overpriced in this country.

I don't currently have the NTL package but have done in the past and would welcome a German language channel. Unfortunately the argument to have a French language channel on offer is just as strong and would probably be strongly protested if it was given the chop for a German station.

So two questions, is the capacity there for extra channels? and if not which channel would be getting replaced?.
