Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Maintenance washes for a new car without access to water

I just picked up a new 201 car (Nissan Leaf, so nothing too fancy) this week, and I'd like to try to keep it in somewhat decent shape. I'd love to wash it myself, but I live in an apartment building, so I don't really have access to a spot where I could wash it, nor access to water (also…to be perfectly honest I'm not sure I'd want to wash it myself every single time).

What would be a reasonable mid-level "maintenance wash" option. If it was an older car with some wear on it I'd probably just send it through a machine wash, but according to The Internet, it sounds like that's basically as good as washing it with sandpaper, and I'd like to take some care of this while I can, but I also don't really feel like paying a fortune for detailing every few weeks :P. Is there some kind of option in the middle?

I'm based in the Dún Laoghaire area, so if there's something near here that would be great.

What's wrong with buckets? I'm in an apartment and that's what I do.

Some petrol stations have a wash station where you can wash the car yourself, it's pretty much a coin fed powerwash.

There are also hand wash valet services about, be more pricey though.

Why would you want to go through a full Detailing every few weeks?

A 2 bucket valet wash every 2 weeks will be just fine, a lot of drive in Valet services around the city will do this for around €10-20 depending on time spent.

And for light amounts of dirt on the car use some microfiber towels and this: https://www.halfords.ie/motoring/car-cleaning/shampoo-polish-wax/meguiars-wash-wax-anywhere

OP, find a self service petrol station that has the coin fed power washer. Just use the water option and bring your own products. Get two buckets, decent wash mitt and pH neutral shampoo.

The key is to minimise the amount of rubbing you do to the car when cleaning. Small bits of dirt being rubbed between the paint and surface of the wash mitt produces the swirls you see from poor washing.

Lots of people use Optimum No Rinse. ONR. Watch a few YouTube videos on it. Sounds like it might work for you. I'm about to order a bottle myself.
