What can I put in my green bin?
The following items may be put out for collection in the green bin:

    1. Waste Paper: newspapers, magazines, copybooks, whole or shredded papers
    2. Light cardboard: cereal boxes, postcards, greeting cards, advertisement fliers
    3. Tetra Pak: washed and emptied milk or juice cartons with plastic parts removed
    4. Steel cans: washed and emptied vegetable cans, dog- or cat-food cans, steel drinks cans.
    5. Aluminium cans: soft-drink or beer cans.
    6. Plastic Bottles washed and emptied e.g. soft drinks, milk, shampoo, detergents etc.

For other stuff you can't put in like heavy cardboard, corrugated stuff, that's a trip elsewhere - return to supplier or goto Ballymount.

Householders may receive unsolicited plastic bags from organisations seeking old or second hand clothes. These organisations ask householders to place unwanted clothes in bags and place them outside their houses for collection.
If the bag has a mobile number or a Northern Ireland number then it's a scam.
if the registered charity number does not start with CHY and you can't find it with google then it's a scam.

[edit]Found this on a government site - bottom line , only give to charities you know.

    # The charities sector in Ireland is unregulated
    # This effectively means that there is no body which has:
    * the specific aim of supervising the sector
    * the statutory powers to either maintain a register of charities or to subject the sector to regulatory scrutiny
