Any purported Pro model, isn't a next-gen leap though. There will be a Pro Switch sooner rather than later (new Tegra on the horizon) As for the successor to the Switch though, that's quite a while a way yes.

Spot on I would say. I think we are going to see the original switch revised i.e new chip and memory iirc.

I've heard that it's going to cost €230 in Europe. That's not great, if true. I assumed that it would get a straight swap from $200 to €200. The lack of dock connectivity is a bummer, even as an option through separate additional purchases. It'll still sell great regardless, this is aimed at the dedicated handheld market. But if this becomes the main seller, we could see developers skimping on gyro controls or HD Rumble. I still feel a Switch at the €150 is the sweet spot for colossal sales, and Nintendo could do that for Christmas 2020 to combat the competition's new consoles.

€150 is what they're selling the 2DS for at the moment. It'll be a long time before the Switch gets that cheap.
$200 to €230 makes no sense if true. Some odd currency rates Nintendo are using there :(

Well the €230 would include Vat in Ireland so ex vat that's €187. The $200 will be without state taxes in the US and that's about €175 converted so €12 more expensive here.

They should really give one of their top tier games away free with it if they are gonna have it at that price. Mario kart or Smash bros if they wanna push the multiplayer parties in parks or on roof tops they keep shoving into their commercials :pac:

Cant believe they got rid of the rumble, why? Thats a dealbreaker for me, no rumble and a 5.5" screen is just not a platform for playing AAA games, laughable to think of squinting at BotW2 on a 5.5" screen with no feedback in the thunderstorms/combat everything else when I could be playing it on a massive screen like I did the first one. Its a bit of a joke product imo but no doubt will be a big seller.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,225 ✭✭✭blockfighter

It has its audience. It will sell very well. Even at that price it's significantly cheaper than the original Switch.

Something to note for anyone looking to get a switch lite to own in conjunction with your regular switch

You will have to de-register your original switch as the primary console, and register your switch lite as the primary console. The reason for this is that only your primary switch console can be played without an internet connection present - this is, of course, assuming you’ll intend for your switch lite to be your ‘out of the house’ console.

Probably a good idea also(before de-registering your original switch) to make sure your saves are backed up(via Switch Online service)

Anyway the bottom line is there’s a little bit of hassle involved, though you’ll find helpful info with a simple internet search.

This, coupled with Pokemon, is going to sell mountains of stock for Nintendo this Christmas.
There really isn't anything to answer it, within that market, on any other format.
I mean, the Xbox and Playstation have tons of great games, but not a lot that is at once new and aimed at a family audience.

Are Gamestop offering trade in of an old Switch for the new Lite model?
I'd be interested in the smaller model along with the better battery life.
I've only ever connected the Switch once to my tv so this if perfect for me.

They're doing a 50% bonus on trade in for the old switch so they'll give you 300 euro store credit for it. Should be enough to cover a Lite and a game.

Just confirmed this. Have traded in my old Switch and have the Lite preorder fully paid off. Money for another game still in my account.

Looking forward to hearing how people find these. The Switch gets a lot more family use than I thought it would so I wouldn't mind a smaller version I could just carry around with me while leaving the OG one back home.

What cases are ye planning to get for the Lite?

I've heard the TomToc are good. There is a Lite model but no word on when it's realeased:

I put this in the Nintendo bargain thread but in case anyone is looking for a Switch Lite. Currys.co.uk have a bundle with Link's Awakening for £199. With parcel wizard etc. that's €229. So essentially a great game for free.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,783 ✭✭✭heebusjeebus

Picked up my Lite during lunch and I've it now setup and Links Awakening is downloading.
It feels great in the hand and the screen looks so much sharper than the OG Switch.
Hopefully I'll get a few hours playtime with it this evening to see if it's more comfortable than the OG.

It's great. Feels so much lighter than the OG and it's very solid. The feel of the matt plastic helps the grip.
I used get sore hands sometimes with the OG but I've not got it yet with the Lite.
The screen seems brighter and sharper too.
It's a great looking handheld too so overall I'm happy I made the change.

Think i may pick one up later today. I think Smyths are the cheapest if you're not trading in an OG one.

If you can wait a few days, Currys.co.uk still have the best offer. It's gone up from £199, but at £219 with a free copy of link's awakening (normally costs €60) it's still a bargain.

Smyths looks the best here with the console plus choice of Links or Mario kart for €265.

Grey model. I didn't see any display models in GameStop Stephens Green.

Digital Foundry review lines up with my thinking on it:

The hardware needed to output Switch Lite to TV "does not exist" in the new device
"There's nothing there to interpret and put out any type of video."

Just picked up a Grey one in Smyths. Much prefer the size to the OG one.

I had a pre-ordered turquoise but decided to hold off until I saw one in my hands.

I'm actually leaning more toward the yellow now, it just looks so nice and "Nintendo" and complements the colour palette used in so many Zelda / Mario games

Grey doesn't interest me, but I'll never know until I get it in my hands.

What sort of warranty comes with this?

Reading a lot about joycon drift that beleaguered many Switch users, and apparently the same joycons are used in this, but obviously they can't be replaced.

So if the joycon started drifting on the Lite does it have a 1 year warranty and are Nintendo generally fuss-free (like Amazon for example)?

What is happening with Nintendo quality control? This happened on the original switch, now with the lite. This and dodgy d pads.

    Previous gen controllers are fantastic.

I finally received mine from Amazon after deciding on the yellow.

I gotta say the colour looks so nice - sorry to rub it in :/

It's a whiter shade than on the box you see in the shop and looks really premium matte and not at all loud. In fact it's quite a subtle colour as it's almost pale.

Also got one of these cases...

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/tomtoc-Nintendo-Protective-Cartridges-Protection/dp/B07W6D3VVV/

The whole things looks quality. Highly recommend it!

    Now to actually play it...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,926 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

The weirdest thing about the Lite is the speakers are in the middle of the back panel but behind the solid plastic, not near the vents. If you put your ear on the back you can hear it. The sound ends up much lower and muffled than the OG one.

That and no kickstand are weird design choices.

So, Lite owners, How are you liking the device? Any comparisons between it and the OG Switch?

I'm loving it. No drift stick issues for me and I've spent a fair amount of time playing it.
I've finished Links Awakening, LTTP on the SNES emulator and currently trying to beat rainbow road on the 150cc special cup on the OG Mario Kart.

It's really comfortable in the hand and more solid that the normal Switch due to the lack of removable joy cons.
    Can't fault it really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,926 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

The only fault I have is it is small. I get pains in my hands after 40 mins from trying to hold it, and using the right stick is pretty much out of question, and I don't have giant shovel hands.

But I still like it, it fits in your pocket so is really portable. Quality is great and the performance is also spot on. I feel less nervous of it falling and breaking off one of the controllers. So I'm more likely to let the kids use it.

I just like the feel of the OG in my hands for long sessions. I can play it for hours. But for under 30 mins blasts on the move the Lite is dead handy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,870 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

I have big hands, but still love it. The colours man... the COLOURS :D

Playing Celeste and Mario Kart 8 on it mostly

Game have the Lite with Overwatch on offer for £199. Overwatch includes 3 months online access too. Overwatch is a download code so there is no trade-in value like with Zelda PC World offer. But still cheap.

Ok, so I put my main account on the switch lite, now I can't play any digital eshop games on the OG switch. What have I done wrong?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,926 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

Is your OG online? Your main console can just play the games but your back up needs to go online every few hours to check your licences.

Every time i start a game on my lite i get a pop up saying checking if this software can be played.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,870 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

Is there anyway to avoid the "select account" popup whenever I start a game?

I only have the one account on it, so can it not be set as default?
