This is a rose called "Barkarole" (Tanelorak), but it looks much darker than the photograph. It is normally grown as a cut rose, as it is not well behaved as a tea rose. I came across this in chelsea in the '90's and it had the deepest dark red I had ever seen, almost black. This is much more evident when the rose petals are tight. It then opens up to being a big blousey number. This photo is midway. It has a smell that no other rose can compare to imo, which is why I have it. It has only been fed organic feeds.

Dog roses are very common, but I love them, such a bright white, flowers all summer (if hips are removed as I go past), a delicious overpowering scent, the bees go mad for them, then at the end of the summer I let the hips form and when they ripen the birds demolish them.

Hybrid T Rose called 'Freedom', it keeps producing flowers all summer and autumn, very little black spot which is quite remarkable after such a wet summer.
