Folks,

Just got a mail from amazon about this. Am downloading it now.

FYI, at the moment you can only get it if you have a US credit card and billing address. You can get the amazon market easily enough but when you try and buy and app it says "not available in your region"

The only way I could get it working was to go onto amazon on my pc, change my default credit card to my US one and download the app to my amazon account. Once that was done it appeared in the amazon marketplace on my phone.

Can someone tell me the point behind the Amazon App store - will it not have all the same apps as the regular market?
seems to me to be just another way of searching for apps like AppBrain or similar sites.
Will they sell apps cheaper
Will it have any advantage over regular Market?
is it not causing serious confusion and fragmentation?

Just from looking at it very briefly, I'd guess they're going for a more closed market, kinda like the apple one. The 1st two angry birds are there for 99c each so they're charging for stuff that's free already.

I could see it working in a corporate environment where they'd block access to the android market and only use the amazon one... but I'm just speculating

They are pitching it as a higher quality app store than the Google Market.

Much stricter quality standards and app approval requirements & better visibility for developers apps on home page.

The 2 Angry Birds games being sold on the Amazon AppStore are ad-free but cost 99c each where as the Market ones are ad supported.

Tried to get that myself today also as it's free.
but as above has to be a US account.

I hope I can get it somehow....

Are the Amazon paid versions ad free? Those ads are a disaster.

Hmm I was thinking the same thing. 99c for no ads sounds good to me... May get the paid ad free version when the store is up and running here.

Use Astro File Manager to go to your download folder and install it.

If your phone is rooted, download Adfree from the market and you will never have to see another ad again...

I guess they will sell it as android market, but without the malware and trojans because it won't be a free for all.

Anyone on darkys 9.4, just umount your SD card before installation and you won't have any problems.

Have to say it is a lot smoother and classier looking than the previous ones....

kids like this one.
it is a release aimed at the new disney movie , called RIO funny enough.
the graphics etc are the same so just goes to show how far the ad men are willing to go to connect and promote product to our children.

Angry Birds Rio is now on the android market place.
don't know if it has ads or not however.
