Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi guys, am I right in thinking that people from the 2018 TCO campaign are still only being placed now?

Now that does not make any sense.... I would be surprised if that is the case.

The invites for 2019 were very early for this campaign. The invites for this campaign were send out in Dec 2018 - I would have thought that they would have finished with 2018 at that stage!

But I could be wrong as well.

I was just reading the 2018 TCO campaign thread and there are people getting placements, starting in March, and as interviews for the 2019 panel haven't even started they have to be from the 2018 campaign.

Don't get me wrong, I'm delighted for them but it's just a bit of a bummer to think it coud take that long, I was desparately hoping to get something in the first half of this year.

    Ah well, c'ést la vie.

I know what you mean.... I am very much in the same boat as you but I really thought that they were finished with 2018 when the invite went out. I was hoping to get posted in March.

Previous years you got a call with in a couple of weeks of your TCO interview - depending on your OOM.

The 2018 TCO panel is still in place. I assume it will end in March 2019 which is the usual time. I know TCO's from 2018 only recently placed.

I think normally the TCO campaign goes from April to March the following year.

This year there was rumours that they had exhaused some of the county panels so for them, id image they will starting placing people immediately after interview and the rest will have to wait until April to start.

As I mentioned above, i dont think anyone from my county has been invited to interview yet so there is probably still hope for 2018 candidates.

Likewise I was hoping to get a early contract this year but it not looking likely at the moment.

Looks like it will be 2 in the panel for TCO so. Don't see a mention of dress code. Would it have to be a suit? Or would smart casual do?

All I can say is I emailed PAS in Dec to check if they were closing the 2018 TCO panel early since they launched the 2019 campaign early and the reply was that that they would be leaving it open for my county of choice until the end of Jan (tomorrow!) I wasn't placed last year but got a good OOM this year so hoping to get to interview stage soon!
    Hope this info helps

I would go with a suit just to be on the safe side! Any idea how to prepare for this interview? feeling a bit lost

You can get the competencies on the information booklet... the familarisation booklet you got interview may also specify if they will be testing all competencies or which ones in particular are being tested.

Have examples of a time you demonstrated each of the competencies

Ie - dont wear jeans and runners!

Ah yeah, have no problem wearing a suit just didn't want to be overdressed! Think it seems more formal than a 5 minute chat this time so might throw one on sure

I guess that actually makes sense, considering there needs to be interviews held for the 2019 campaign.

Agree completely. Nobody would be expected to dress formally for a TCO interview. Trousers and shirt would be just fine I reckon

The people who have been called for interview can they confirm what competencies they have to study . I wonder are they all the same ones for TCO's?

Did anyone going for interview tomorrow receive an acknowledgement email from the confirmation email they sent? Anyone know if refurbishment works are still going on at PAS?https://www.publicjobs.ie/en/information-hub/latest-news-and-events/421-the-public-appointments-service-is-undergoing-a-refurbishment

Probably (another) silly question but presume we get original docs back and they keep copies? It's just to verify the original doc?

Anyone who had an interview today - how did they go for you?

I had my TCO interview yesterday, it went fine, there were two people on the interview panel, it took about 15-20 mins. They told me the questions were going to be competency based and I was asked things like:

•Can you tell us about a time you worked on a project, how did it go? What was your role in it?
•How are your computer skills? What type of systems, have you used? Can you use email?
•Customer service skills, how would you deal with a difficult customer? Outcome?
•Team work – Have you ever had to deal with a team member not doing their job? How did you deal with it?
•Deadlines – Can you give an example of meeting deadlines in a job?
•What did I think was the most important thing a team should have?
•Do you have any questions for us? Is there anything you’d like to include not mentioned during the interview?

The interviewers were friendly and it was relaxed. They said we should hear the results in a few weeks and they are hoping to start placing TCO’s in March 2019. (I opted for all year round when applying)

No passport photos required just the documentation requested in the interview invite. Just to mention that the two copies of your completed application form you are asked to bring with you are for the interview panel members so bring a copy for yourself if you feel you need to have one there for your own reference.

    Best of luck to everyone.

Out of curiosity, did you ask about when you would hear? Or did they just say it at end of interview without you asking?

You would normally hear with in a week to 10 days.

Ah cheers. Was just curious cos they didn't mention anything at end of mine so was wondering had op asked. Or did they say it.

They volunteered the information, I didn't even think to ask about it at the end. I know in previous years the results would be back quick enough, I hope this is also true for 2019.

Thanks Redfoot2019 for concise information re interview. Can you confirm if you were informed prior to the interview in the familiarisation booklet what the 3 competencies are? I have heard that you MUST pass all 3 competency questions by over 50% in order to get a new OOM number.

  • Registered Users Posts: 56 ✭✭nl2803

I wasnt able to get to my interview on Saturday due to the snow, I emailed them on Sat as I couldn't get anyone on the phone, haven't heard anything back from them today. Did anyone else have to cancel?

So do you think if we don’t pass one of the compentencies we fail the the interview?

Is it definitely that you get a new OOM number? I thought it was pass or fail for interview but I could be wrong

I'm not sure that that information is correct - there was nothing about passing all 3 competency. I understood it was it was either fail or pass but not now either way.

The competencies listed in the familiarisation info are:

    • Delivery of Results including Managing and Processing Information
    • Teamwork, Customer Service & Communication Skills
    • Specialist Knowledge, Expertise and Self Development
    • Drive & Commitment will be assessed throughout the interview.

It also says "Stage 2 will comprise of a competitive interview. To qualify, candidates must reach the qualifying standard in each competency. Panels of qualified candidates will be formed per location choice after Stage 2- Competitive Interviews."

"Candidates will be assigned to positions per location choice in accordance with their place on the order of merit and their availability as indicated on their application form subject to fulfilling the eligibility requirements."
