Marquez has had an 11 HOUR operation to fix the arm. 6 month recovery.

Scotty well done on that scoop - nothing on the official channels at the moment.

Operation was rumoured for this week but it was just that a rumour.
The seriousness of the original injury is still shrouded in secrecy but the blame game has been in full swing for the last two weeks.
If the other rumours are true then Dovi will be MM replacement for the first half of the season.

Honda have now released a statement that Marc had an 8 hour operation describing it as "uneventful ".

A new plate has been fitted and a iliac crest bone graft.

It looks like there was a media embargo in place until midnight EET ie 10pm Irish time.

I'd like to see Michael Laverty get a chance in the commentary booth alongside Neil Spalding. I wonder if that pairing would be a bit flat though?
I always liked Julian Ryder, but he has stepped back as well, that said I enjoyed him covering the WEC stuff, he is great for stats.
I do think its great to have a technical expert like Neil Spalding on the panel. It would be great if you had a mix of Ryder, Huewen, Spalding and Laverty all commentating on different races.

Is Spalding a new addition to the BT coverage? I watch the races on the Videopass but I do like Spalding's explanations of everything technical within MotoGP.

For me, the best coverage of MotoGP that there ever was was on Eurosport, Toby and Julian on the mic's, Randy in the pit lane getting all the juice and Spalding explaining anything technical... Dream team right there.

Keith Huewen has left BT Sport but I don't think they've said who'll replace him yet.

Michael Laverty has been excellent on BT Sport. He's really really good at explaining the more technical stuff - much better than Colin Edwards.

Marquez has appeared on Spanish television and has admitted that returning at Jerez was a mistake BUT was with the Doctors saying that he was fit to ride.

Marc went on to say that if he knew there was a risk of the plate breaking he would not have rode, specifically saying the break happened at home as a result of riding in Jerez.

Honda have also come out and said that they did not want Marc to ride.

No further news on Marcs recovery is expected for at least 3 weeks.

I was reading someone’s tweet the other day (I can’t remember who) but they said that the MotoGP doctors pass riders fit or not on how the riders condition will affect other riders and if they can handle the bike safely. They do not pass them fit or not on the basis of how it will affect their recovery times and or prospects.

I wonder who actually did pass him fit? Should Honda have stopped him? Yes, I think so. I wonder is he taking any personal responsibility on this?

And who encouraged him to do press ups and lift weights for a video that was then uploaded....

Think we all hope that Marc makes a full recovery and returns later in 2021 or at the start of 2022 fully race fit.

Surely he's going to be risk averse if and when he gets back

The risk of reinjuring his arm

If he did he wouldn't be where he is now.

I don’t think so. Those type of people just think differently from most of us. I think he will be the same Marc that he always has been. It may take him a while to get back to the sharpness he was though.

Top level racers don't think like an average rider, that's why they are top level.
During a course of a season, many riders are riding injured, its just part of the job.
Those riders don't go slower unless the injury physically affects movement in general terms.
They compartmentalise pain into a part of the psyche that doesn't affect their ability to ride.
History is littered with riders that have ridden with injuries that would put most people into a bed.

Rossi in 2010 had an open fracture of his leg in Mugello, Bone sticking out the skin. just over a month later he was back and finished 4th
Edwards in 2011 broke his collarbone and podium finished the next race
Stoner in 2012 smashed his ankle and placed 4th
Lorenzo in Assen 2013 broke his collarbone in practice, got it plated and came back to race and placed 5th.
Michael Dunlop last year had crutches to get around the paddock after a broken pelvis two weeks before.

These guys are not like you or me, they are gladiators, make no mistake they can and will endure stuff that would make many faint.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,773 ✭✭✭Scotty #

They also have access to pain relief medication that you are I wouldn't be offered. But I do agree with your point.

    Was a comment I spotted on crash.net

Just wondered would it cause hesitancy, I guess not

I saw some of the road/ short circuit racers say they only give it 90% on the road

Road racing is completely different to short circuit, circuits don't have road furniture which poses a risk to a rider so they have to manage it differently.

Its almost a different discipline entirely.

I remember hearing an interview with J.Rea about it and how he never did roads because it was so different and dangerous even though his grandad had Rea Racing who had Joey Dunlop as a rider.

Ya his father was a road racer and the Irwin's dad alan

And of course Michael Dunlop doesn't hold back on the road in spite of the furniture

Interesting story coming out that a replacement rider ride was discussed by Honda with Cal Crutchlow .

The idea was that Cal would be available for Moto GP and WSBK.

Cal turned it down as he felt he could end up racing all season.

It's well known that Honda want Bradl to get back testing exclusively ,the fact they are discussing replacement rider rides would possibly be indicative of Marc being unavailable at the start of the 2021 season.

No Brno GP in 2021. The track needs maintenance and with no ticket money coming in they've decided to withdraw from the calendar.

I can see this happing in a few places. Football clubs etc must really be under pressure!

We might have Portimao next year so. Me and my mates were discussing it, and Portugal would make a nice change from Silverstone.

Brno is probably the best track I have been to - tv does not do it justice - the last corner is banked which never comes across on TV.

Portimao would be a good replacement but Moto GP needs Brno

First pictures of Luca MarinIs Moto GP Ducati have just been released - the bike is in full VR46 livery with Sky sponsorship.

Considering Tito brought the Hublot sponsorship it's unclear what Colours the other Esponsorama (Avintia ) Ducati will appear in their final season.

I get that riders have their branding etc but could he not have created more contrast between his number and the bike with a darker border maybe? It's a bit lost isn't it?

    Eq97dkDW8AAP9p2?format=jpg&name=small

Still no word on who'll be replacing Marc.

Not confirmed. I didn’t mean to suggest so but there seems to be a lot of people I’d normally listen to talking about it. Interesting times.

It’s said to be confirmed tomorrow.

In fairness to Moto GP they have always said the 2021 calendar was a moveable feast and would change (unlike other motor sports....).

Looking at the proposed first two months of the calendar it's very hard to see those races especially Argentina and COTA taking place so early European rounds may get the go ahead subject to the no fans conundrum.

Any delays to the season of course do play into MM hands as his recovery from injury continues.

Better news on Faustino Gresini who thankfully appears to be very slowly recovering from Covid and is now concious after being in an induced coma.

Certainly interesting times ahead. MotoGP seem to be rightly as responsible as they can reasonably be. As you said it could work for Marc

"If the call comes, he's ready" - Dovizioso waiting on HRC
According to his manager, Simone Battistella, Andrea Dovizioso is primed and ready to replace the injured Marc Marquez at Repsol Honda.

Not so long ago it was 'under no circumstances...'

The Aprilla Moto GP launch took place earlier this afternoon and included a tribute to Fausto Gresini. Faustos name is on the aerofoils on the front aeros.

Tomorrow, March 5th sees the Moto GP rookies and test riders take to the track for the first time with all riders on track from Saturday.

Looking forward to an early indication of pace - KTMS claim that they have not produced a big bang engine is being dismissed by a number of respected commentators......

In other news Hungary have signed a contract to host Moto GP from 2023.

Yea it's a strange one. Aprilia already have a surplus of riders. I wonder how Smith and Savadori feel about it?

Can't see him back in 2021, maybe he's doing it with a view to 2022. Surely the's too old for that?
