Best game/experience to show someone who has never seen VR?

Hey,

So VR isn't massively widespread yet in Ireland and this subformum is fairly quiet!

I had a few mates over during the week and they were blown away by the rift!

What would be some good recommendations or your go-to experiences for a good reaction? They loved Beat Saber / Superhot VR & got a bit of a jump from Batman VR.

Any other top recommendations?

To get a scare, or for the wow factor?

I only have limited experience of the PSVR platform, and don't use it much at all, but for me the Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One add-on and the London Heist I found the most impressive.

I'm not really a gamer so haven't played any of the big name games, but I have no doubt some of these would be excellent too.

I could imagine playing Fortnite in VR, would be great.

The X Wing add on and the London Heist demo were great hooks. Then Superhot really sold it to me. Farpoint then showed the potential of accessories via the aim controller.

Kitchen demo (on PSVR) is great for that "first" foray into VR.

On Go I'd use "Wander" or one of the rollercoaster apps.

On Rift, I'd show them SLR... obviously

Don't own a headset

But have tried it a couple of times.

A racing game, SuperHot VR, Robo Recall was great once you know how the controllers work. Would also recommend some of the more video based experiences - know someone who was very impressed by this tour of the White House and some scenes where "you're" sitting across from Obama.

a game I picked up in a bundle but is great for a quick viewing is Fancy Skiing as it really gets people to react

I saw that one alright, it looks pretty good.

Do you get a sense of speed and movement like in Sprint Vector?

Sprint Vector is a great game to show off VR, but might be a bit complex for newcomers.

Had some spare time today so played The Inpatient. It’s probably not for everyone, but it blew me away. Visually, it’s the best thing I’ve experienced. It’s the closest thing I’ve come to being in an actual movie. You speak out loud to interact with characters in the game, it’s not a long game, only about 3hrs, I breezed through my first run, but spent more time exploring in my second play trough and because your decisions lead to different outcomes, it has some reply value as well. Well worth $20 and personally one of my best experiences in VR. I’d love to see more story based games like this.

I actually really liked it. I read the lines outload in the tone I imagined the characters would use and felt really part of the experience.

I enjoyed the second time around because I was less scared and more adventures.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes - hilarious two player game. Had it in my steam library for ages, but just booted it up last night, had some laugh.

It's not what you expect at all! One person telling you how to defuse a bomb that you can't see while you read the manual.

Job Simulator's a laugh, but only for a brief taster, I think it gets boring fast!

The BBC spacewalk surprised me! Legs were like jelly. A bit glitchy in parts with the astronaut controls, but the experience itself messed with me head!

yeah a good sense of speed but it is the jumps off cliffs that get people and I always have to stand with a chair behind them (usually older people) because I know they are going to go down

Job simulator is great because it really removes that whole restricted feeling that comes with many non vr games. There's stuff in it that you're thinking just isn't going to work but you try it anyway and then it actually works and it blows your mind. I mean, you can stick your head in the copier, press the button and it prints a brain!

Oh yea, I've seen First Contact sooo many times now, beginning to think I need to start charging admission.

My latest rotation...start with the 'experiences'
Face Your Fears (Heights & freaky clown ****) - get them used to just the feeling of VR and ****ting their pants.
Then AirCar to see how strong the stomach is.

I introduce the hands with First Contact, followed up with the BBC Space Walk & ISS Mission (both good for testing the jelly legs)

or 'Accounting' for the Rick & Morty fans, always gets a laugh & it's pretty quick.

Small Bit of job simulator - funny for a few minutes, but gets repetitive.
Superhot or Robo Recall.

Then a spell on Beat Saber, (it's crazy how quickly people pick this up and how easy it is to fall in love with it)

Contemplating introducing 'Thrill of the Fight' for sheer exhaustion, but also the one that's most likely to result in broken hardware or walls.

It's more a tutorial than a game, you're in a trailer with a Wall-e type floating robot and it gets you to try different things to get used to the controls, like grab things and shoot things etc.

Wipeout Omega for me is the best overall. Unlike a lot of conversions, it's pretty much as visually impressive as the flat-screen version. It's also immersive and is a great game to boot.
Firewall is probably the best shooter.

Had my first VR experience at Xmas on my brothers PS4 playin Omega.

Used to play Wipeout way back in the day and was instantly at home. The lads expected me to get woozy as they played with the settings? but I was immersed right away. Loved it.
