Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Talking with friends last night the subject of great music videos came up and none of us (late 30's to mid 40's) could remember when the last great new music video we saw was.

Wrecking Ball was the last one we all remembered and that was 6 years.

Do acts still make music videos?

Everyone makes music videos. That's the whole trouble. These days you ain't shit in the music bidness unless you're a sex person of some denomination, be it either an assaulter or assaultee.

How much time do you actually spend watching music channels?

    Youtubers killed it off.

    Ryan ToysReview – $22 million
    Jake Paul – $21.5 million
    Dude Perfect – $20 Million
    DanTDM – $18.5 million
    Jeffree Star – $18 million

Great song, but a great video from an Irish director.

Toxic political correctness and twitter storm watching old prodigy videos(smack yo b up). Excellent vid but would get no airtime now die to drug references and sexual content despite the lesbian twist.
In summary there is more money in playing it safe rather than trying something different

It caused loads of controversy when it came out first. It wasn't shown back then. It didn't stop them making it though.

It's 10 minutes long so it's practically a short film, but the video for Steven Wilson's Routine is beautiful and heartbreaking

I'd imagine due to the internet, music video channels have declined in popularity pretty significantly. So there isn't nearly as much need for a video to promote a video. Similarly, it means people are less likely to see a video that has been made.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

To be fair though, youtube is the biggest music streaming site in the world.

Hassan Minhaj covers it in his latest episode of patriot act. And he's bemoaning the state of Hiphop including music videos.

That was a great video. MTV used to show it in the early hours of the morning. Found it online a few months and showed it to a few friends in late 30s & early 40s who never saw it.

But wouldn't that mean creating a music video is still financially viable?

Didn't that Psy fella make $8 million because of the Gangnam Style video ad revenue alone.

    Acts still make them.

You just stick them on youtube now. Music channels are basically a thing of the past.

Streaming or downloading self made playlists killed the video star.
Here's my cleaning playlist, my party playlist etc.

Every music video goes on youtube now, if its popular it gets millions of views .
The difference now is theres 100,s of tv channels .
i remember when there was maybe 3 or 4 music channels ,mtv, vh1,etc
I dont think music videos are as important now.
Its not dead, its just that a music video has to be really good to get noticed .i don,nt know if young people watch music videos on tv ,
The have a purpose ,when a new band has a hit they make a video,
it,ll be seen worldwide, i think it,s impossible for a band to get fans
worldwide without releasing some music video,s .
Kpop bands are popular in europe because people can watch their video,s , even though they dont sing in english .
Theres at least 10 music video channels on sky satellite so i assume someone must be watching them .
