    Hey guys,
So I have gotten an interview booked for tomorrow with the principal of Yeats for repeating my leaving cert. I certainly didn't get the points I expected to get & shockingly I done way better in my mocks than the real! :/
I'm slightly anxious as I don't know what type of questions he'd ask. Are they straightforward? How long does the interview last? Will I need to bring a parent with me? Do I need to bring anything with me (exam number, lc results, jc results, deposit etc)?
What are the chances for not getting into Yeats?
    Thanks a million. :)

Like anywhere, they don't want time-wasters. They want to see you are serious about wanting to put in the work. After that, if you pay your money, you're in.

edit **crikey the prices - is there nowhere else you can repeat without paying that sort of money?

My old school doesn't allow repeating, unfortunately.
I've contacted one that does allow it, however I'd have to travel quite a distance each morning to attend it.
So, Yeats is pretty much the only considerable option to take.

I suppose just make sure it's worth it. Are you going for a very high points course?

I wouldn't consider it a very high points course. I'm trying to get into psychology.
I know for sure if I put my head down for the whole year this time round, I'd get the points I need.

I suppose if you get what you want, it's worth the money. It just seems a shocking amount to me when there are places you can do it for 5% of that cost. Good luck whatever you do.

I was a student in Yeats. There's no need to be nervous about the interview. Terry, the principal, will just want to meet you, ask you what course you are aiming for, what happened last year that you didn't get it, what you'll do differently this year, what subjects you want to take, results in them in both LC and JC etc. The questions are straightforward enough but he'll want to hear that you are going to take this seriously and commit to the programme. He'll want to talk to your parents too so yes, they should be with you. The interview lasts around half an hour or so. As for what are the chances that you'll be accepted? Whatever they say, if you're willing to pay the money, they'll take it. After the interview, he'll sign you up right on the spot if you still want to go through with it so yes you should have the deposit prepared.

I'll just warn you, a year in Yeats is not an easy year so make sure you have really thought this through and you are sure repeating is the best option for you. It is extremely intense. You'll practically live in that building for the 9 months 8am-9pm every. single. day. That said, the teachers in Yeats are amazing. I've never had such a collection of kind and genuinely caring teachers. If they see you are doing your best, they'll bend over backwards to help you achieve your goals. It's expensive. Is it worth the money? It depends on what you make of it. Are there other much cheaper schools that you could do as well in if you were just as committed? Probably.

Thanks a million. Does this mean I have to bring my JC results aswell as my LC? Also, can you bring other certificates of academic achievements such a writing competitions etc with results?
Yes, I've heard it is quite intense & you need to have the head down from day 1! I have thought about it for a long time & believe its my only choice as I do not want to take on the course I was offered. It may cost alot more but because the classes tend to be quite small (so I've heard), its an advantage as I am the shy type & could cope with small classes :)
Also, are timetables given after the interview (if you get in and subjects are chosen)?

Honestly, they'll take anyone who'll pay. Don't worry about getting in. Classes aren't that small to be honest and have very little interaction between the teacher and students. They're more lecture style. Interviews quite casual, no need for any certificates and just rough results off the top of your head are fine. You won't get your timetable until your first day. They need to get all the subject information off all of the students before they can make it up :)

If you have any other questions, I'll be happy to answer.

    Ah, thanks a million!
I was certainly making this interview seem a much more formal & worse thing than it actually seems to be!! :p
I'd just like you to clarify, because you said 'off the top of your head', does this mean one can come in empty handed without any results at all? :)
Also, about the study sessions after school, are they free? Or does one have to pay a separate fee for them? :)
    Thanks alot for the help!

Well, of you can't remember your LC results, you should probably write them down :P The JC results don't really matter seen as you're a repeat. He'll take notes as you talk to him so don't worry about giving him any records or anything. Yes, all after school study, extra classes after school and Saturday study are free. You pay enough!! :P

How much is Yeats college for a repeat leaving cert student?

There are specialist adult centres for doing or repeating the Leaving. Pearse College in Dublin would be exclusively adult students.

Hey guys, I repeated in Yeats this year. It was my best decision yet, jumped 80 points to 605 and got medicine :) honestly the teachers are so so lovely, if you're struggling go straight up to them and they will take u privately. At the end of the day that is what u are paying for. Terry is also so nice, u can call in to the office any time and there is such a relaxed atmosphere. By the end of the year you'll be sick of his motivational terry talks but they do work!! I'm not going to say the year is easy, it's not, but it is so worth it in the end. If you want to pm me I can give u my mobile if u have any questions at all. I know what it's like to be in your situation!M good luck :D

    Hey!! And that's great! :)
I didn't think the interview was that bad tbh, I was making it seem a much more terrifying thing than it was. Terry was sound! What about you? :p
And same here! Will you be bringing anything? Like books etc? :p

Interview wasn't that bad at all actually, he was really friendly :)
No idea what to bring, doubt we need anything on Monday because I think it's just a tour and we get out locker key. Tuesday I'll bring just a school bag with refil pad and exam papers maybe.
Going to have to buy 7 folders for each subject :P I'm really nervous as nobody that I know is going to Yeats and I'm quite shy :P

  • Registered Users Posts: 272 ✭✭alaskayoung

Honestly guys, you don't need anything on Monday aside from a pen, a few sheets of paper and money for a homework journal :P

Yeah thats true! :) Going to bring a pen & copy just incase we need to jot down teachers etc & then money for the journal.
I'll probably bring the same as what you'll bring on Tuesday plus a few books, if they manage to fit in the bag!! :p
Yeah, the folders are a necessity, I've them bought already :D
I'm the same as you, I'm also shy :p
My brother is going to Yeats too but he's only starting fifth year, so I'll only know him around, apart from that, I'll be a newbie too :p
