Wonder if this is a biggie or not. Basically last year I had 6 years no claims, which I provided to my insurer, this year got the no claims document stating I still have 6 years no claims discount only. Is this is a limit ? or should I have gotten 7 years no claims in the document instead

I have made no claims in the last 7 years

No Claims Bonus has no legal standing, it's a discretionary discount awarded by insurers as a discount. So, some companies have a scale of NCB up to a certain number of years.

However that doesn't detract your actual experience of having no claims may be longer than that, so if a new insurer wanted something on that, you'd just ask your 'old' insurer of a letter acknowledging the actual number of years you've driven with them claim-free.

As most companies NCB policies are similar, and not having an accident in the last 5 years being the most relevant driving experience to calculating your premium then and NCB 'cert' beyond that is of moot value.

Thanks, yeah the new company I went with only gives me a max of 5 years no-claims discount. Just thought if it was worth pursing to get them to send me a doc with the correct number of years or not

Well you can, but I don't think your new insurer will give you anything extra for it.
