Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wife got this car recently. I read that the average mpg is 50 but she only seems to be getting 43mpg. Is there something wrong with it?

Is the 43mpg from the trip computer?

Do an extended full, drive over 300km, refill mpg test and report back. Trip computer can give inaccurate readings

Is she driving it around town or motorway runs?

Filled up to full. Drove 400 miles and refilled. Took 43 litres to fill. Mostly town driving. Just expected it to be closer to 50mpg

The official figures are always well off. 43 mpg around town is good going.

My missus gets about that in an 06 Yaris around Dublin.

Actually you wouldn't get a whole lot more driving at 120 kmh. You might get a bit more driving at a steady 100 kmh.

youre going to lose mpg over time too, 50mpg quoted turning into 43 real after 15 years is pretty decent.

Can't argue with that to be honest. Steady 80-90kph will normally be the most efficient speed to drive at. Lowest speed you can hold the highest gear, in general.

Yep 50 mpg doing 50mph ish out the country is as good as you could get. Around the town would be v. lucky to get more than 40mpg!

Also depends on the style of driving. Some people use more fuel than others.

Small cars also have to revved a bit more which can hurt the fuel consumption.

Resset the trip computer and ssee if it reads more accurately. I had a 03 corolla and if i didnt reset it every so often the mpg figure would slowly decrease over time.

I'd also say the saving are on insurance, tax, and the cost of servicing and parts and deprecation, which are a lot cheaper on a smaller car like this. Fuel isn't that much different if driving it in the city and in heavy traffic.

We used to have an old Micra 1.0 which was heavier on Fuel than than a 1.6 Honda. But in every other way the Honda was much more expensive to keep on the road.

You need to look at total costs. Not just fuel.
