Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Pocket Casts is brilliant, think it costs a couple of euro, but well worth paying for.

I use podcast republic. It's free and works well.

    I use BeyondPod.

I used the free version for ages but because I used it so much I bought the premium, which has chromecast support.

    I use 'Beyond Pod' also.

The current version looks very poor.... I'm using an old version, which is terrific.

I use podcast addict and find it excellent. Every easy to use and free too. It is aslso easy on the battery also.

I like Antenna Pod. Free and zero frills. Interface looks ugly but it does what it is supposed to. You can manually add RSS feeds or search Itunes.

    +1 for Podcast republic

+1 I've tried loads of podcast players and Pocket Casts is by far the best. It's really easy to use and has ever feature I can think of wanting. It's well worth the money

    Podcast Addict.
Layout is not the most appealing, but it does it's Job.

I use doggcatcher, does the trick. If I recall I had to pay extra for variable speed playback though.

Podkicker is very good as well.

I'm on dogcatcher too. It's handy enough. Costs a couple of quid if you want to have more than 10 feeds and variable speeds as mentioned above.
Using it for about four years and I've no complaints.

Pocketcasts and beyondpod are both decent, I've been using the newer version of beyondpod but prefer the older design which while clunky suited my needs.

Every beyondpod user preferred the old app.

So the creators put up the old version.... The link is at the bottom of the below help page...

You may have to enable 'allow install from untrusted sources' as its the direct installation file rather than something on the play store

Do any of those apps allow offline listening ?

I have an android head unit in my car and would like to have some podcasts downloaded for when the radio is rubbish.

    Yes....

You can either stream a podcast or download it to your device & create playlists & whatnot.

It works fine in the car then via aux or bluetooth.

Aah,.,... I thought you meant just a regular phone with a car stereo!

I had no idea that there was such thing as an android car stereo!!

hopefully the app will work fine in the car.

Quick update on this. I switched phone to a Vodafone Smart Ultra, and BeyondPod keeps crashing. Switched over to Podcast Republic and impressed so far. Also got Podcast Addict

    Big Pocket Casts fan myself.

I used to use Podcast Addict but I much prefer the layout of Pocket Casts. Costs about €1.29 but it's well worth it.

I use podkicker for all my free podcasts and beyond pod for one I pay for. Podkicker is great. Beyond pod I could take it or leave it.

I use stitcher. Don't think it's great to be honest. Ui isn't good.

Any android podcast app out there that shows controls (pause/play/skip) on the lockscreen? I'm running beyondpod on lollipop(6.x) and it's not supported. I find this feature very useful.

Player FM has that. Find it a great podcast app, free and no adds either.

I think it might be the loader my Honor 5X uses by default.

New to Android and looking for the best Podcast app to replace the IOS app. I downloaded Stitcher but there is very little Irish content on it. I typed in Newstalk and the only show that comes up is Newstalk Breakfast. Loads of Irish shows on RTE, TodayFM and Newstalk that I listen to are not on it? Are there apps that have the same content as the Itunes feed? Cheers.

I purchased and swear by pocket casts (link).

Also bought the browser access (means I can log in through play.pocketcasts.com and resume listening to podcasts there). Here's what appears when I search Newstalk.

Podcast Addict would be the next best (free) equivalent.

Cheers for that. I'll download them now.

Just moved to Pocketcasts. So far, so good. I like the design, features and how much control it gives you on each subscription. Only slight issue in the car this morning was that it rolled from one episode into another without changing the info on my car's screen i.e. from Planet Money to a BBC episode - screen thought it was still PM and the time wasn't accurate either. Wasn't an issue this evening, so might have just been a glitch. Will see how things go for the rest of the week.

I wish Pocket would do a search feature, for searching episodes.

6 weeks on - happy with Pocketcasts.

Artwork doesn't always display on Pocketcasts, but that could be an iOS issue.

Other thing I'm wondering about is, if I move my Pocketcasts account to another device will the subscriptions/preferences be carried over, or would I have to set them all up again?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,868 ✭✭✭donspeekinglesh

I have Pocketcasts on multiple devices (including the web), and my subscriptions/preferences sync. Only thing that doesn't is the Now Playing list.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,067 ✭✭✭✭neris

Ive been using podbean the last few months. Only downloaded it coz a regular itunes podcast I listen to is on it aswell. Shows & selections seem very hit and miss and limited in choice if your looking for extra listening. Another issue I have is that the app just randomly starts playing a show I might have paused earlier in the day when phones not being used
