I thought as I have the time I would make a list of all squash clubs/courts in Leinster so there is a ready reference for people who want to join somewhere locally. I will leave it to others to do Munster, Ulster and Connaught. This is not exhaustive and is really un-checked in parts as clubs close down and new ones open too. I have put a quick description of any courts I have been to / played on. I am sure others will be able to amend and add to this list especially since I am only aware of Leinster squash on the whole. I have not included websites since many are obviously googleable if you want to check one out.

    Leinster

Fitzwilliam LTC - Home to many international squash fixtures and considered the top club along with Sutton in Leinster (despite Carlow having at least two of the top-ranked players in the country and many of the best juniors) (8 courts)

Sutton LTC - The other strictly white-clothing policy club besides Fitzwilliam

Westwood - In Leopardstown and along with the two above they tend to feature heavily in the Leinster leagues

Aer Lingus - Out in ALSAA beside airport (3 courts???) Visited the place but never played here

    Joe May's - Skerries

David Lloyd Riverview - Another expensive club in Clonskeagh

Leinster Cricket Club - I used to belong here but left because of moving house and it became too far to travel too. (2 courts) Friendly place, not really many junior players playing but they enter quite a few teams in the leagues still.

RTE - (2/3 courts) PLayed here once, although I think membership and use is really only open to RTE staff. (Correct me if I am wrong)

Mountpleasant - Ranelagh - Another tennis/squash combo who are very professional if a tad exclusive.

Old Belvedere - Squash/Rugby combo in Donnybrook. Don't know much about them but they do seem to field very competitive teams in the Leinster Leagues.

Total Fitness - Sandyford. One of the many squash/fitness centre combos

Sandycove Squash club - No info

    Total Fitness - Castleknock

Curragh Squash club - In the army training centre. Not sure if they are open to membership outside the armed forces. Someone told me once that they had very low (or was it high) ceilings.

All the teams above regularly enter teams in the Leinster League as can be found on the Leinster Squash website

Other Clubs in Leinster that I know of

    Arklow Squash Club
    Mullingar Squash Club
    Tullamore Squash Club
    Carlow LTC
    UCD
    Trinity
    DCU
    Kilkenny Squash & Racquet Club
    Dundalk Rugby Squash Club
    Squash club in Drogheda
    Bridgeview Squash Club - Wexford

Other courts (but no clubs as such) that I know of still in existence:

    K Club
Killenard Community Centre (Portarlington) (1 Court)
Ballinakill (Laois - 2 courts - in need of maintenance)
    GAA Club in Cabra ???
    Carrickmacross Emmet Centre (1 court)

There are many others in hotels around Leinster too I think but having never played in one I have no list of them here.

    PLease add to this list

Naomh Fionnbarra in Cabra has a court. 12 euro per hour for two people.
Is there any courts around blanchardstown.

Here is a list as complete as I know of squash clubs in Munster:

    Cork

Silversprings - Just off the N8 as you come into Cork. Up behind the hotel in a fitness place called The Source. Courts (3) are glass-backed and the ball really rockets off the walls

Highfield - In the Mardyke in a tennis club. Great courts (traditional not glass-backed) again ball really flies off the walls. Showers and changing area is well-looked after too.

The Orchard - Another Cork based club. Never played there yet.

Sunday's Well - Hope to play in a tournament there sometime but not so far so can't say much about it

Killarney - In the Gleneagle Hotel

Thurles - Great club, (At Thurles Golf Club) lots of juniors, two courts, new roof and heating going in this year I believe.

Other Clubs in Munster that I know exist but know very little about.

    Nenagh (only 1 court)
    Limerick Lawn Tennis Club
    Ennis CBS
    Catholic Institute ???
    Kilworth
    St Finbarr's
    Midleton
    Clonmel
    Mallow
    Kilbrin ???
    Celtic (in Cork?)

Sorry, it is Sunday's Well that is in the Mardyke and not Highfield. I should also mention that both UCC and UL have squash courts too.

Heya folks. Does anyone know of any squash courts in the drogheda, navan or ballbriggan areas??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,333 ✭✭✭Redsoxfan

I see the K Club mentioned as having a court in the first post-is this still the case? Is it open to the public? What does it cost?

Myself and my mate are thinking about starting to play again-he works in Citywest and I work in Naas-where would be handy-Spa Well would probably be the handiest-unless there is somewhere else around Citywest?

Any clubs near Stillorgan, Co. Dublin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 134 ✭✭dizzyg

Check out www.leinstersquash.ie/clubs.htm for a full list of clubs. There are a few dotted around South Co Dublin.

I play in Sandycove and can recommend it. Not that expensive, easy to get a court, friendly people and players of all standards. Internal leagues and Leinster league teams etc etc. The website is www.sandycovetsc.ie, or give me a shout for more details.

There arent many pay-as-you-play clubs around. Most require you to join up. UCD is the only one im aware of on the south side and thats a bit more expensive if youre not a member.

  • Registered Users Posts: 295 ✭✭mccarte2

De La Salle school in Churchtown have a pay as you play option. €12 per hour and the 2 courts are decent but hard to get into. Does anyone know any other pay as you play (non-membership) options in South Dublin?

  • Registered Users Posts: 87 ✭✭kaizer_soze

Does anyone know of anywhere around Dublin City Centre that you can pay per game? I'd like to play an occassional game with a friend without having to commit to joining a club. He's Northside of the river, I'm Southside so somewhere around town would be ideal. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Just rang silver springs and the girl there told me that I could only play if I was a member or with someone who is a member. Bummer.
The mardyke is always booked out :(
I've now booked a court in the orchard... So Will try to let ye know what it's like. The guy said it's €10 per game an €1 per person. I don't know what his definition of a game was or how he's going to moniter how many games we play but shur we'll see how it goes i suppose.

There is one in the stephenites gaelic clubhouse, you need the old 50p pieces to work the lights, and if you play regular they will ask you to become a member of the club (gaa club) I think its about €40.
There is also a court in the downhill hotel leisure centre, €10 p/p to use all facilities or you can become a member, don't know the fee.
The best squash set-up is in Killalla, the squash club there are very good, I could not join as I work evenings and nearly all games were scheduled at that time. The league there is good, its in the community centre.

I know its a really really really late response and you probably already know the answer by now but someone else may find the info useful. It's €100 for the year to join St. Finbarrs. If you join later in they year they give you a discount. After that you just have to pay for heat and light which is 50 cents for 10 minutes. If you are not a member you can play 3 times with someone that is a member but I don't keep tabs on who you bring. I have brought a friend who is not a member a few times and nothing has been said.

    Hi all,

I'm a 42 year old member of Westwood Leopardstown who used to play a bit of social squash. I fell into a poor lifestyle over the last few years (too many hours in the office, too much food and drink, no excercise etc) and have been working (successfully) to fix that for the past few months by changing my diet, being very selective about when I socialise and getting back into some jogging and cardio work.

I'm now at a stage where I feel like getting back into some social squash at an appropriate level. I haven't played for 3-4 years so am looking for some sort of over 40's squash ladder either before work (7:30am ish) or lunchtimes.

Anybody here know of such a thing in Westwood Leopardstown or be interested in starting one?

    BenEadir
